True Palindromic Proportion - 24x42 Size

This tantilizing palindromic 24x42 size is part of a series of sizes that are the same forwards and backwards, even though its specific proportion is the 7:4 ratio.

The Palindromic Series of canvas sizes challenges artists to explore the potential of symmetrical shapes in their work. This series is characterized by sizes that read the same forwards and backwards, such as 12x21 and 34x43. Unlike other canvas sizes, there is no actual proportion that defines these shapes, thereby creating a sense of wonder and a challenge for artists to push the boundaries of their compositions. In fact, the very symmetry of the palindromic shape can add an extra layer of intrigue and mystery to the composition, prompting viewers to question the artist's intentions and the underlying meaning of the piece.

While the use of palindromic shapes in art is not new, it continues to be a source of fascination and inspiration for many contemporary artists. These shapes can be used in a variety of ways, depending on the artist's style and vision. Some artists use palindromic shapes as a focal point, while others incorporate them into the background or use them as a pattern on the canvas. The use of palindromes can also serve as a nod to linguistic and literary elements, as they are often used in wordplay and puzzles. This reference can add a layer of meaning to the artwork, making it more engaging for viewers who appreciate the subtleties of language and symbolism.

Elite™ Professional 1.5" Deep B2 Bar • 1/2" Canvas Clearance

A Canvas Clearance of 1/2" is the space between the Bar and the canvas. Generally speaking, more clearance reduces the risk of the canvas touching the wood and creating unsightly lines during painting. Our design provides the optimal clearance so as not to impact your painting, but still leaving enough wood to the maximize strength of the Stretcher Bar.

No Finger Joints!

Solid Wood is far superior to finger jointed wood, which is many small pieces glued together, each with varying grain densities that absorb and shed moisture at varying rates, expanding and contracting non-uniformly as environmental conditions change, and causing the wood to bow and the finger joints to eventually fail.

A single homogeneous kiln-dried solid wood Stretcher Bar outperforms and outlasts a finger jointed Bar whose sole purpose is to save the manufacturer cost, not contribute to the archival value of artwork intended to last a millennium. As a manufacturer, Masterpiece® does its part to conserve as much wood as possible, and still provide a quality product that will out-perform any other in the marketplace.

  • Super strong Elite™ B2™ Stretcher Bar is 50% stronger than most others in its class
  • For this 24x42 large size frame, the frame provides the ultimate foundation for your art with increased strength and stability
  • Produces a 1.5" deep stretched canvas
  • 2-1/4" wide Stretcher Bars
  • All Bars have an exclusive groove on the inside perimeter of the frame to which cross braces and Diamond Corner Braces attach
  • Solid Ponderosa Pine or Fir from the Pacific Northwest

Sustainably Managed Forests Coexist with Mankind

We use lumber grown in the sustainable forests of the Pacific Northwest, where there’s more standing timber today than last century! There will always be a demand for wood pulp and fiber, but striking a harmonious balance with human coexistence is the essential strategy to which we subscribe. Sustainably managed forests increase our health and abundance of our forests which can be in harmony with this precious natural resource.

Specially Dried and Heat Treated Lumber

We source our wood from a select group of top-tier environmentally conscious lumber mills in the Pacific Northwest. These mills specially dry and heat-treat the lumber to our specifications, resulting in about half the moisture content compared to wood from typical home improvement centers or lumber yards. This process makes the wood stronger, reducing the likelihood of cracking, splitting, or warping. While the wood we use comes at a higher cost, it ensures a more dimensionally stable end product. This stability is crucial for crafting fine professional canvases that support your invaluable art over time.

30x48 is the Canvas Size Needed for this 24x42 Frame

Please note that you will need a canvas that is at least 6 Inches larger than the actual frame size to ensure proper stretching. This will provide ample material to stretch the canvas and attach it to the back of the frame. If you prefer to attach the canvas from the edge of the stretcher frame, you can reduce the size of your canvas by approximately 3/4" all the way around the frame. This will allow you to paint on the edge of the canvas and hang your artwork without needing a separate picture frame. And, if you ever need to remove the canvas from the frame and re-attach it, you'll have enough material to do that too.

Art completes what nature cannot bring to a finish. ♦ Aristotle

The ancient Greek philosopher whose ideas have left an indelible mark on Western thought, Aristotle was an advocate for understanding the world around us through observation and reason. His perspective on art, as encapsulated in this quote, reveals a profound insight into the symbiotic relationship between nature and human creativity.

In the dance between the natural world and the constructs of the human mind, art emerges as a bridge. While nature provides the raw materials, the landscapes, and the myriad inspirations, it is through our artistic endeavors that we give voice to the unspoken and shape to the formless. Artists take on the role of translators, completing the narratives that nature commences but leaves open-ended. We embrace the imperfections, the fleeting moments, and the unresolved tales, and through our canvas, brush, or chisel, we offer interpretations and conclusions.

For Aristotle, the pursuit of knowledge was paramount. In much the same way, as artists, we seek understanding, connection, and expression. Nature lays the groundwork, igniting our curiosity and wonder. And it's up to us to seize that spark, to carry forth the dialogue, and to ensure that the stories nature begins find their rightful endings in our artistry.

Creativity is a dance between inspiration and innovation. Our own self portrait creation of Aristotle twirls alongside these profound words, hoping to set the stage for your next artistic performance. Now go do your dance on the canvas!
