True 14:13 Near Square Proportion - 39x42 Size
The 14:13 aspect ratio is one of our intriguing near square proportions, which offers subtle asymmetry. Unlike a perfect square, which can sometimes feel static, a near-square ratio like 14:13 provides a slight horizontal or vertical stretch that introduces just enough imbalance to make compositions feel dynamic while still being contained and compact. Create an unusual tension between symmetry and asymmetry. This subtle variation in the dimensions might work well for portraits, still life, or minimalist compositions, where balance and proportion are important but don’t need the formality of a perfect square.

Elite™ Professional 1.5" Deep B2 Bar • 1/2" Canvas Clearance
A Canvas Clearance of 1/2" is the space between the Bar and the canvas. Generally speaking, more clearance reduces the risk of the canvas touching the wood and creating unsightly lines during painting. Our design provides the optimal clearance so as not to impact your painting, but still leaving enough wood to the maximize strength of the Stretcher Bar.
No Finger Joints!
Solid Wood is far superior to finger jointed wood, which is many small pieces glued together, each with varying grain densities that absorb and shed moisture at varying rates, expanding and contracting non-uniformly as environmental conditions change, and causing the wood to bow and the finger joints to eventually fail.
A single homogeneous kiln-dried solid wood Stretcher Bar outperforms and outlasts a finger jointed Bar whose sole purpose is to save the manufacturer cost, not contribute to the archival value of artwork intended to last a millennium. As a manufacturer, Masterpiece® does its part to conserve as much wood as possible, and still provide a quality product that will out-perform any other in the marketplace.

Forests need People, and People Need Forests
The concept of sustainability presupposes a comprehensive engagement of individuals in the art and science of forest stewardship, both in the present and for the well-being of generations to come. Humanity undoubtedly extracts wood from forests to supplement our needs, but they also play a crucial role in bestowing diligent care upon these ecosystems. This stewardship encompasses not only the responsible harvesting of forest resources but also extends to the safeguarding of clean water sources, the preservation of wildlife and their native habitats, and the mitigation of potential threats like erosion, fires, and diseases that could otherwise lead to untimely degradation of these precious woodlands.
Masterpiece® uses only lumber harvested from responsibly and sustainably managed timberlands.
Specially Dried and Heat Treated Lumber
Our wood is handpicked from a curated group of environmentally responsible lumber mills in the Pacific Northwest. By adhering to our precise drying and heat-treatment standards, these mills produce lumber with nearly half the moisture you'd find in common home improvement outlets or lumber yards. This meticulous process not only enhances the wood's strength—minimizing risks of cracks, splits, or bends—but also elevates its dimensional stability. Such quality, despite its premium, is paramount in creating professional canvases designed to uphold the sanctity of your cherished art throughout the years.
45x48 is the Canvas Size Needed for this 39x42 Frame
Please note that you will need a canvas that is at least 6 Inches larger than the actual frame size to ensure proper stretching. This will provide ample material to stretch the canvas and attach it to the back of the frame. If you prefer to attach the canvas from the edge of the stretcher frame, you can reduce the size of your canvas by approximately 3/4" all the way around the frame. This will allow you to paint on the edge of the canvas and hang your artwork without needing a separate picture frame. And, if you ever need to remove the canvas from the frame and re-attach it, you'll have enough material to do that too.

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.
♦ Aristotle
Aristotle, the ancient Greek philosopher and polymath, was not only a master of philosophy but also a thinker who appreciated the profound essence of art and its connection to the human experience. His words on poetry's philosophical depth offer a fascinating insight into his beliefs and the relevance of art to our lives as artists.
Born in 384 BCE in Stagira, Greece, Aristotle's influence on numerous fields, including ethics, politics, and metaphysics, is immeasurable. Yet, his thoughts on poetry and art reveal a deep understanding of their significance. Aristotle believed that poetry, with its ability to capture universal truths and emotions, transcends the mere recording of historical events. It delves into the essence of the human condition, exploring themes and ideas that resonate with artists and audiences across time.
As artists, we find solace in Aristotle's wisdom, for it reminds us that our creations, whether through painting, sculpture, or any other form of artistic expression, have the power to touch the universal aspects of the human experience. Our work goes beyond the confines of history, connecting with people on a profound level by expressing timeless truths and emotions that bridge the gap between the particular and the universal.
