Unlock your creativity with our Lost Size collection, starting with this 6x9 canvas. Created by Masterpiece® in the commonly used 3:2 Film proportion, these sizes are sure to inspire and challenge artists of all levels.

True 3:2 Film Proportion - 6x9 Size

The 3:2 aspect ratio is a very familiar format film, computer screens, and video, and, of course, is an aesthetically appealing proportion for your artistic compositions. Most 35 mm film cameras are based on this exact proportion, so our brains are trained to see images in this same ratio. It is commonly used for landscape photography and artwork, as it allows for a wide, panoramic view of the scene. It can be used to create a sense of balance and harmony in the composition, providing depth and perspective, as the longer sides of the canvas allow for more space to depict the background or foreground elements of the scene.

Even though this proportion is widely used, there are only a handful of commonly available standard canvas sizes in this ratio. There are a whole collection of intriguing (what we call) Lost Sizes, which are uncommon sizes in this common proportion. Unusual canvas sizes add intrigue to your artwork and an additional story to tell about your painting.

3D™ Pro 2.5 Stretcher Bar • 1/2" Canvas Clearance

1/2" Canvas Clearance is the space between the Bar and the canvas. Generally speaking, more clearance reduces the risk of the canvas touching the wood and creating unsightly lines during painting. Our design provides the optimal clearance so as not to impact your painting, but still leaving enough wood to the maximize strength of the Stretcher Bar.

  • Produces a 2.5" deep stretched canvas (Actual depth is slightly thinner)
  • 1.25" wide Stretcher Bar
  • All Bars have an exclusive groove on the inside perimeter of the frame to which cross braces and Diamond Corner Braces attach
  • Solid Ponderosa Pine or Fir from the Pacific Northwest

Solid Wood is Archival - Finger Jointed Wood is Not

We only use Solid Wood to build our Stretcher Bars because a solid piece of wood will last indefinitely. When we speak of archival value, it's not just the paint you use and the quality of your canvas and ground, even the wood choices manufacturers make are part of the archival process.

The principal reason manufactures use finger jointed wood is reduce cost, not increase archival value. Wood constantly grows and shrinks when the environment becomes hotter, or colder, or more humid, or more dry. Because finger jointed wood is made-up of multiple and varied pieces of wood, with varying grain patterns and densities, they each absorb and shed moisture at varying rates, which works on the glue joints that hold them together, causing the wood to bow and the joints to eventually fail, and certainly not consistent with increasing the archival value of your artwork frame support.

As a manufacturer, we do our part to conserve as much wood as possible, and still provide a quality made product that will out-perform any other in the marketplace.

In art, theories are as useful as a doctor's prescription; one must be sick to believe them. ♦ Robert Delaunay

One might wonder what drove Robert Delaunay to such a stark conclusion about art theories. Throughout his career, Delaunay was characterized by his persistent desire to break free from conventions, to shed the weight of traditional forms and thoughts. His statement here underscores a fundamental belief: art thrives on authenticity and intuition, rather than rigid theories or prescribed methods. Like a prescription meant for an ailment, theories can sometimes be restrictive, limiting an artist's potential to explore and experiment.

For many in the world of art, this sentiment is deeply relatable. While theories and guidelines can provide a framework, they should not become the cage in which creativity is confined. We, in our art careers, frequently encounter these crossroads, where we must decide whether to conform or to chart our own course. It is in these moments of choice that our unique voice and vision come to the fore. As we trust our instincts and carve our path, we recognize that true artistic liberation lies beyond theories, in the realms of imagination and daring.

We hope to inspire your art with this wonderful quote and our interpretation along with our own one-of-a-kind portrait of Robert Delaunay..got to love it!
