8x16 Classic Value Cotton Gallery Canvas 1-3/8" Deep #GM-0816

True 2:1 Domino Proportion - 8x16 Size

8x16 is one of our popular Domino 2:1 sizes.

The 2:1 aspect ratio, that we call the domino proportion, also offers a unique canvas for artists to play with the perception of space and depth within their compositions. The elongated format allows for the inclusion of foreground, middle ground, and background elements, creating a sense of distance and scale that draws the viewer's eye into the artwork. This aspect ratio has been used by artists throughout history, from ancient Egyptian tomb paintings to Renaissance frescoes to contemporary photography. Its versatility and timelessness make it a classic choice for artists seeking to create dynamic and engaging compositions.

Finger Jointed Wood is not meant for Stretcher Bars

Solid wood makes the most dependable Stretcher Bar, because one homogeneous wood member is going to behave similarly across the entire length of the Bar. Whereas, with finger-jointed wood is made-up of multiple pieces of wood, sometimes on the actual joint itself, presenting multiple points of failure which no one can control.

We only use Solid Wood to build our Stretcher Bars because a solid piece of wood will last indefinitely. When we speak of archival value, it's not just the paint you use and the quality of your canvas and ground, even the wood choices manufacturers add or reduce value to your final painting. The fact is, you don't want problems, and finger joints only increase that risk of the wood falling apart in the future.

The glue used to bind finger joints is a water based adhesive and when that wood is exposed to high humidity environments, particularly with exterior walls, the glue joints can give-up. As a manufacturer, Masterpiece® does its part to conserve as much wood as possible, and still provide a quality product that will out-perform any other in the marketplace.

What is Sustainable Forestry?

To a forester, the term "sustainable" could mean exercising industry adopted forestry practices to maintain a forest indefinitely. To a logger, the process of proper care for the trees remaining after a harvest. To a landowner, their interest may lie in keeping their forest in the family. And to those of involved in the process of making and using wood-based art supplies, it can mean promoting and supporting an industry dedicated to the preservation of our precious natural resource. We can all do our part to care for our national forests.

Titanium Dioxide (TiO₂) Primer Pigment

This primer contains premium-grade Titanium Dioxide (TiO₂) white pigment, renowned for its exceptional performance in acrylic priming. Its standout feature is its enduring whiteness, coupled with remarkable flexibility that persists over time. In contrast to other pigments such as zinc dioxide, Titanium Dioxide maintains its resilience, preventing brittleness as it ages. I often think that the night is more alive and more richly colored than the day. ♦ Vincent Van Gogh

For Vincent Van Gogh, the world was an endless canvas of vibrant emotions, with each hour of the day offering a unique palette of colors and feelings. One can't help but recall his masterpiece Starry Night when contemplating this quote. With its swirling blues and radiant stars, Van Gogh captured the essence of a night alive with dreams and musings. While many might find solace in the brightness of day, Van Gogh found a special resonance with the night's mystery and depth.

It reminds us that, in our art, we are free to interpret the world around us in any light we choose. Just as Van Gogh saw a vivacity in the night that many might overlook, we too can find beauty and inspiration in unexpected places. The shadows and the silhouettes, the hush of a sleeping world, and the allure of the moon and stars — they all present a different, yet equally captivating, view of life. As artists, it is this fresh perspective, this ability to see beyond the obvious, that distinguishes our vision and allows us to communicate profound emotions and ideas to those who engage with our work.
