Finger Jointed Wood is not meant for Stretcher Bars

Solid wood makes the most dependable Stretcher Bar, because one homogeneous wood member is going to behave similarly across the entire length of the Bar. Whereas, with finger-jointed wood is made-up of multiple pieces of wood, sometimes on the actual joint itself, presenting multiple points of failure which no one can control.

We only use Solid Wood to build our Stretcher Bars because a solid piece of wood will last indefinitely. When we speak of archival value, it's not just the paint you use and the quality of your canvas and ground, even the wood choices manufacturers add or reduce value to your final painting. The fact is, you don't want problems, and finger joints only increase that risk of the wood falling apart in the future.

The glue used to bind finger joints is a water based adhesive and when that wood is exposed to high humidity environments, particularly with exterior walls, the glue joints can give-up. As a manufacturer, Masterpiece® does its part to conserve as much wood as possible, and still provide a quality product that will out-perform any other in the marketplace.

Sustainability is about Reducing Deforestation

Choosing products made with sustainably sourced lumber is an important way for consumers to make a positive impact on the environment. By supporting sustainable forestry practices, we can help to reduce deforestation, promote biodiversity, and mitigate climate change. It's a simple and effective way to make a difference.

Titanium Dioxide (TiO₂) Primer Pigment

This primer contains premium-grade Titanium Dioxide (TiO₂) white pigment, renowned for its exceptional performance in acrylic priming. Its standout feature is its enduring whiteness, coupled with remarkable flexibility that persists over time. In contrast to other pigments such as zinc dioxide, Titanium Dioxide maintains its resilience, preventing brittleness as it ages. This quality ensures that artworks retain their integrity and will stand the test of time.

Specially Dried and Heat Treated Lumber

Our wood is handpicked from a curated group of environmentally responsible lumber mills in the Pacific Northwest. By adhering to our precise drying and heat-treatment standards, these mills produce lumber with nearly half the moisture you'd find in common home improvement outlets or lumber yards. This meticulous process not only enhances the wood's strength—minimizing risks of cracks, splits, or bends—but also elevates its dimensional stability. Such quality, despite its premium, is paramount in creating professional canvases designed to uphold the sanctity of your cherished art throughout the years.

Why shouldn't art be pretty? There are enough unpleasant things in the world. ♦ Pierre-Auguste Renoir

A pivotal figure of the Impressionist movement, Pierre-Auguste Renoir held an ethos that shimmered with optimism. His work, awash with soft hues and scenes of everyday life, was an ode to the beauty and simplicity that surrounded him. At a time when the art world was in flux, with newer forms pushing boundaries and exploring deeper, often darker themes, Renoir's perspective offered a refreshing contrast.

Art has myriad roles: to challenge, to provoke, to inspire, and yes, to beautify. While some artists harness their craft to spotlight societal ills or inner turmoil, others, like Renoir, choose to celebrate the joyous and harmonious aspects of life. In a world where artists often grapple with complex narratives, Renoir's sentiment gently nudges us towards acknowledging the profound impact of beauty. It's not a retreat from reality but rather an assertion that amidst the chaos, there's a space for elegance and charm.

We have the liberty to decide what lens we view the world through. Renoir's words are an affirmation that it's alright to create art that offers solace, a respite, or simply a moment of delight. Amidst the cacophony of life's challenges, sometimes, a beautiful artwork is just the balm the soul needs.
