True Dynamic Root-5 Proportion - 9x20 Size

This 9x20 is one of our Dynamic Root-5 Rectangle Root-5 Rectangle series.

The Dynamic Root-5 rectangle is an inspiring proportion based on organizing your spatial composition with endless symmetrical divisions. The premise in Jay Hambridge's 1926 book is that the Dynamic Symmetry of individual elements are informed by their relationship to the entire composition. This very special proportion is guided by the square roots of integers and has a storied and historical basis in art.

It involves the use of geometric shapes and patterns in the proportion of the square root of 5 to 1 to create balance and harmony in a composition. This can be achieved by dividing a composition into a grid of squares or rectangles, and then placing elements within the grid in a way that follows the principles of dynamic symmetry. Dynamic symmetry is often used to create a sense of order and structure in a composition, and can be particularly useful for creating compositions that are harmonious and pleasing to the eye.

Vegan Ground:

There are no animal products that make-up the sizing and the primer for this fine canvas. Historically, traditional canvas grounds have included egg tempura, pigments with cow urine, and of course, rabbit skin glue. In today's rapidly advancing world, there are many more choices available for artists who prefer non-animal based products that perform far better than their animal-based predecessors.

Titanium Dioxide (TiO₂) Primer Pigment

This primer contains premium-grade Titanium Dioxide (TiO₂) white pigment, renowned for its exceptional performance in acrylic priming. Its standout feature is its enduring whiteness, coupled with remarkable flexibility that persists over time. In contrast to other pigments such as zinc dioxide, Titanium Dioxide maintains its resilience, preventing brittleness as it ages. This quality ensures that artworks retain their integrity and will stand the test of time.

Our Hardcore™ Pro Pro Canvas Panels are the flattest on the market. They are made using MDF (medium density fiberboard) which is the highest quality engineered wood board on the market. Moisture in the board can cause undesirable results to the panel and your artwork, which is why we size the board with four layers on the front before the canvas is mounted, thereby defending against moisture getting into the board and underneath your artwork.

Canvas Panels should be as flat as possible, otherwise, they don't display well in a frame, and can create spaces between the artwork and the frame. A bowed panel is also a sign of having been impacted by the effect of moisture. Canvas can shrink, even after it is mounted on the board. For this reason, Masterpiece® developed a unique proprietary process that stress-relieves each panel, thereby virtually eliminating the bow that is commonly found in competing panel products. Hardcore™ Pro Canvas Panels provide a stable foundation for your art.

I don't believe in art schools. I believe in individual artistic education, without professors. ♦ Paul Gauguin

Paul Gauguin, with his characteristic audacity, boldly proclaims a sentiment that might be considered radical, especially in the academic circles of his time. Driven by an untamed spirit and a profound belief in the intrinsic value of self-discovery, Gauguin's life was defined by his unwavering pursuit of authenticity in art.

While institutional education has its merits, offering structured guidance and a communal environment, Gauguin's assertion highlights the undeniable power of self-directed exploration. For many artists, the path to mastery is a deeply personal one, often characterized by moments of introspection and individual experimentation. After all, art is an extension of the self, a manifestation of our unique perspectives and emotions. By bypassing traditional education, we have the liberty to chase our own curiosities, to make mistakes and learn from them, and ultimately, to find our voice in an unfiltered manner.

In an age where information is abundantly available, the idea of self-education isn't as far-fetched as it once might have been. Artists today can access a wealth of knowledge, drawing inspiration from global sources and various epochs. But Gauguin's words remind us of the importance of cultivating our intuition and trusting our instincts. The crux of his message is not to shun all formal learning but to recognize and champion the unparalleled growth that arises when we, as artists, take the reins of our own artistic education.
