10x16 Hardcore Pro Muir Plein Air Canvas Panel #HA-1016

True Golden Mean Proportion - 10x16 Size

This 10x16 size is one of our Golden Mean sizes, considered the most pleasing shape to the eye!

The Golden Ratio, also known as the Golden Mean or Divine Proportion, is considered the most aesthetically pleasing proportion to the human eye. Used in art and architecture for thousands of years, countless examples can be found in nature, plant life, galaxies, and the human body. It is often used as a guide to arrange your subjects on the canvas in concert with other Golden Mean shapes like an ellipse, star, triangle, and spiral, resulting in intriguing compositions. Many famous artists, such as Michelangelo, Da Vinci, Mondrian, Botticelli, Dali, and Seurat, have used this proportion in their art, and many contemporary artists continue to use it exclusively. If you're looking for a challenge or some inspiration, consider using a canvas in the proportion of the Golden Mean to create compositions that come alive in the most intriguing and eye-catching ways!

Vegan Ground:

There are no animal products that make-up the sizing and the primer for this fine canvas. Historically, traditional canvas grounds have included egg tempura, pigments with cow urine, and of course, rabbit skin glue. In today's rapidly advancing world, there are many more choices available for artists who prefer non-animal based products that perform far better than their animal-based predecessors.

Titanium Dioxide (TiO₂) Primer Pigment

This primer contains premium-grade Titanium Dioxide (TiO₂) white pigment, renowned for its exceptional performance in acrylic priming. Its standout feature is its enduring whiteness, coupled with remarkable flexibility that persists over time. In contrast to other pigments such as zinc dioxide, Titanium Dioxide maintains its resilience, preventing brittleness as it ages. This quality ensures that artworks retain their integrity and will stand the test of time.

Our Hardcore™ Pro Pro Canvas Panels are the flattest on the market. They are made using MDF (medium density fiberboard) which is the highest quality engineered wood board on the market. Moisture in the board can cause undesirable results to the panel and your artwork, which is why we size the board with four layers on the front before the canvas is mounted, thereby defending against moisture getting into the board and underneath your artwork.

Canvas Panels should be as flat as possible, otherwise, they don't display well in a frame, and can create spaces between the artwork and the frame. A bowed panel is also a sign of having been impacted by the effect of moisture. Canvas can shrink, even after it is mounted on the board. For this reason, Masterpiece® developed a unique proprietary process that stress-relieves each panel, thereby virtually eliminating the bow that is commonly found in competing panel products. Hardcore™ Pro Canvas Panels provide a stable foundation for your art.

The missionary is no longer a painter, but an apostle. ♦ Paul Gauguin

Delving into the intricacies of Gauguin's words, one discovers a profound reflection on purpose and transformation. Gauguin's own life was a tapestry of change, marked by his search for deeper meanings, both in art and in existence. He traded the metropolitan sophistication of Paris for the untouched landscapes and cultures of Tahiti. In this process, he transitioned from merely being a visual chronicler to someone with a message, akin to an apostle.

Artists often embark on their paths with the simple intention of capturing beauty or expressing an emotion. However, as we delve deeper into our craft, we find ourselves driven by a stronger purpose. The canvas becomes not just a medium of aesthetic appeal but a platform to convey powerful messages. Gauguin's departure from conventional European art to immerse himself in the vivid colors and raw narratives of Tahiti speaks of this very transformation. He wasn't just painting scenes; he was painting stories, beliefs, and a way of life.

It serves as a reminder for us. While the allure of colors and shapes might initiate our artistic pursuits, it's the depth of the message and the impact of our work that defines our legacy. Much like Gauguin's evolution from a painter to an apostle, we, too, are called upon to evolve, ensuring our art goes beyond mere aesthetics, becoming a beacon of thought, emotion, and profound meaning.
