Titanium Dioxide (TiO₂) Primer Pigment

This primer contains premium-grade Titanium Dioxide (TiO₂) white pigment, renowned for its exceptional performance for oil priming. Its standout feature is its enduring whiteness, coupled with remarkable flexibility that persists over time. In contrast to other pigments such as zinc dioxide, Titanium Dioxide maintains its resilience, preventing brittleness as it ages. This quality ensures that artworks retain their integrity and will stand the test of time.

Artfix Poitiers™ Portrait Smooth Belgian Linen offers a luxurious surface, ideal for highly detailed work. Preferred by portrait artists because it is so smooth for linen. Due to the nature of how flax plants are turned into linen textiles, there may be variations in yarn thickness thereby creating fabric that is individual in nature and has character. There can be infrequent naturally occurring nubs in the linen which may yield small slight bumps where the linen is a little thicker than the rest of the strand. This is normal and part of what gives linen its character.

Oil paint on an oil primed canvas improves your results

Using an oil prepared canvas for oil painting can produce superior results because the paint and ground are organically similar and create an ideal "chemical bond" where the paint sinks into the ground resulting in a smoother and more even finish. The resulting bond between the paint and canvas is stronger, making the artwork more durable and long-lasting. Additionally, the melding of the two oil-based materials creates an effect called luminosity, where the colors appear to glow from within, and thereby enhances the vibrancy and brightness of the colors, impacting the way light reflects off the colors.

Lightly Wipe an Oil Prepared Canvas with Mineral Spirits

While it is not required, for best results, lightly wipe or flash the oil prepared canvas with mineral spirits before painting to make sure that your surface is completely clean of any dust or contaminants before painting.

Our Hardcore™ Pro Pro Canvas Panels are the flattest on the market. They are made using MDF (medium density fiberboard) which is the highest quality engineered wood board on the market. Moisture in the board can cause undesirable results to the panel and your artwork, which is why we size the board with four layers on the front before the canvas is mounted, thereby defending against moisture getting into the board and underneath your artwork.

Canvas Panels should be as flat as possible, otherwise, they don't display well in a frame, and can create spaces between the artwork and the frame. A bowed panel is also a sign of having been impacted by the effect of moisture. Canvas can shrink, even after it is mounted on the board. For this reason, Masterpiece® developed a unique proprietary process that stress-relieves each panel, thereby virtually eliminating the bow that is commonly found in competing panel products. Hardcore™ Pro Canvas Panels provide a stable foundation for your art.

I regard as symbolist everything that raises our soul to activity. ♦ Robert Delaunay

In the vast and intricate tapestry of art history, Robert Delaunay occupies a space known for its vivacious use of color and geometric abstraction. However, his views on symbolism offer a profound understanding of what art can be. By considering anything that stirs the soul to activity as symbolist, Delaunay prompts us to look beyond traditional definitions and to recognize the transformative power of art.

We, in our art careers, are constantly in search of symbols, be it through brush strokes, hues, or forms, that elicit profound emotional responses. Whether it's the nostalgia evoked by a particular shade of blue or the anxiety captured in a jagged line, it's the symbolic value of these elements that reach out and touch our souls. What Delaunay understood, and what many of us have come to realize, is that symbolism isn't restricted to overt images or motifs. Instead, it's present in every choice we make as artists, in every emotion we aim to convey, and in every reaction we hope to invoke.

Art, in its purest form, is a conduit between the soul of the artist and the soul of the observer. Every artwork, every color, every shape holds the potential to awaken something deep within us. Delaunay's perspective serves as a reminder that our pursuit should not be merely to create but to inspire, to move, and to resonate with the deepest parts of our collective soul.
