5x10 Hardcore Pro Santa Cruz Plein Air Canvas Panel #HZ-0510

True 2:1 Domino Proportion - 5x10 Size

An intriguing Domino size!

The 2:1 aspect ratio, that we call the domino proportion, also offers a unique canvas for artists to play with the perception of space and depth within their compositions. The elongated format allows for the inclusion of foreground, middle ground, and background elements, creating a sense of distance and scale that draws the viewer's eye into the artwork. This aspect ratio has been used by artists throughout history, from ancient Egyptian tomb paintings to Renaissance frescoes to contemporary photography. Its versatility and timelessness make it a classic choice for artists seeking to create dynamic and engaging compositions.

There are no animal products that make-up the sizing and the primer for this fine canvas. In today's rapidly advancing world, there are many more choices available for artists who prefer non-animal based products that perform far better than their animal-based predecessors.

Titanium Dioxide (TiO₂) Primer Pigment

This primer contains premium-grade Titanium Dioxide (TiO₂) white pigment, renowned for its exceptional performance in acrylic priming. Its standout feature is its enduring whiteness, coupled with remarkable flexibility that persists over time. In contrast to other pigments such as zinc dioxide, Titanium Dioxide maintains its resilience, preventing brittleness as it ages. This quality ensures that artworks retain their integrity and will stand the test of time.

Our Hardcore™ Pro Pro Canvas Panels are the flattest on the market. They are made using MDF (medium density fiberboard) which is the highest quality engineered wood board on the market. Moisture in the board can cause undesirable results to the panel and your artwork, which is why we size the board with four layers on the front before the canvas is mounted, thereby defending against moisture getting into the board and underneath your artwork.

Canvas Panels should be as flat as possible, otherwise, they don't display well in a frame, and can create spaces between the artwork and the frame. A bowed panel is also a sign of having been impacted by the effect of moisture. Canvas can shrink, even after it is mounted on the board. For this reason, Masterpiece® developed a unique proprietary process that stress-relieves each panel, thereby virtually eliminating the bow that is commonly found in competing panel products. Hardcore™ Pro Canvas Panels provide a stable foundation for your art.

The only thing to do is to keep starting afresh. ♦ Nicolas de Staël

Nicolas de Staël, a master of abstraction and nuanced color palettes, lived in an era of rapid change, both in the art world and the larger societal framework. The ebb and flow of his career, marked by both triumphs and challenges, mirrors the sentiments echoed in this statement. To start afresh isn't merely about reinventing oneself but about resilience and adaptability in the face of evolving circumstances.

Every artist knows the weight of expectation and the sometimes stifling grip of past successes. We might find ourselves bound by what was once groundbreaking but now feels familiar, even limiting. De Staël's words encourage us to break free from our own created molds, to embrace new beginnings regardless of where we are in our art career. It's this willingness to begin again, to approach the canvas with fresh eyes and an open heart, that drives innovation and keeps the artist's spirit alive.

Such a perspective is both liberating and challenging. In the realm of art, where history and legacy cast long shadows, the courage to wipe the slate clean and start anew is rare but invaluable. De Staël's wisdom reminds us of the endless possibilities that await when we, as artists, allow ourselves the freedom to perpetually evolve.
