True 14:13 Near Square Proportion - 65x70 Size

The 14:13 aspect ratio is one of our intriguing near square proportions, which offers subtle asymmetry. Unlike a perfect square, which can sometimes feel static, a near-square ratio like 14:13 provides a slight horizontal or vertical stretch that introduces just enough imbalance to make compositions feel dynamic while still being contained and compact. Create an unusual tension between symmetry and asymmetry. This subtle variation in the dimensions might work well for portraits, still life, or minimalist compositions, where balance and proportion are important but don’t need the formality of a perfect square.

3D™ Pro 2.5 Stretcher Bar • 1/2" Canvas Clearance

1/2" Canvas Clearance is the space between the Bar and the canvas. Generally speaking, more clearance reduces the risk of the canvas touching the wood and creating unsightly lines during painting. Our design provides the optimal clearance so as not to impact your painting, but still leaving enough wood to the maximize strength of the Stretcher Bar.

  • Produces a 2.5" deep stretched canvas (Actual depth is slightly thinner)
  • 1.25" wide Stretcher Bar
  • All Bars have an exclusive groove on the inside perimeter of the frame to which cross braces and Diamond Corner Braces attach
  • Solid Ponderosa Pine or Fir from the Pacific Northwest

Solid Wood is Archival - Finger Jointed Wood is Not

We only use Solid Wood to build our Stretcher Bars because a solid piece of wood will last indefinitely. When we speak of archival value, it's not just the paint you use and the quality of your canvas and ground, even the wood choices manufacturers make are part of the archival process.

The principal reason manufactures use finger jointed wood is reduce cost, not increase archival value. Wood constantly grows and shrinks when the environment becomes hotter, or colder, or more humid, or more dry. Because finger jointed wood is made-up of multiple and varied pieces of wood, with varying grain patterns and densities, they each absorb and shed moisture at varying rates, which works on the glue joints that hold them together, causing the wood to bow and the joints to eventually fail, and certainly not consistent with increasing the archival value of your artwork frame support.

As a manufacturer, we do our part to conserve as much wood as possible, and still provide a quality made product that will out-perform any other in the marketplace.

Sustainability in our Forests and our Communities

At Masterpiece®, we believe in responsible and sustainable business practices. That's why we only use lumber from sustainably managed forests in our products. By doing so, we can help to protect our planet's forests, reduce our environmental impact, and support the communities that depend on these valuable resources.

Specially Dried and Heat Treated Lumber

Our wood is handpicked from a curated group of environmentally responsible lumber mills in the Pacific Northwest. By adhering to our precise drying and heat-treatment standards, these mills produce lumber with nearly half the moisture you'd find in common home improvement outlets or lumber yards. This meticulous process not only enhances the wood's strength—minimizing risks of cracks, splits, or bends—but also elevates its dimensional stability. Such quality, despite its premium, is paramount in creating professional canvases designed to uphold the sanctity of your cherished art throughout the years.

73x78 is the Canvas Size Needed for this 65x70 Frame

Please note that you will need a canvas that is at least 8 Inches larger than the actual frame size to ensure proper stretching. This will provide ample material to stretch the canvas and attach it to the back of the frame. If you prefer to attach the canvas from the edge of the stretcher frame, you can reduce the size of your canvas by approximately 3/4" all the way around the frame. This will allow you to paint on the edge of the canvas and hang your artwork without needing a separate picture frame. And, if you ever need to remove the canvas from the frame and re-attach it, you'll have enough material to do that too.

With deep family ties and a legacy spanning since 1965 in California, Masterpiece® has been the epitome of unmatched quality in Stretcher Bars across North America. Artists are, above all, men who want to become inhuman. ♦ Paul Gauguin

At first glance, Paul Gauguin's statement may seem perplexing or even contradictory. How could an artist, an individual inherently connected to human emotion and expression, strive to be inhuman? Gauguin's tumultuous life, marked by constant shifts between societal norms and his quest for raw, unbridled expression, provides a hint. He often sought to break free from conventions and expectations, aspiring to achieve a level of purity in his work that transcended mere human experience.

While most of us might never experience the extremities of Gauguin's path, artists often find themselves at odds with society's norms. We push boundaries, question accepted truths, and dare to see the world through a lens untouched by common perspectives. Gauguin's notion of becoming inhuman might then be viewed as an urge to surpass limitations and reach for the extraordinary. In our art careers, it's this relentless pursuit of the unconventional and the ability to see beyond the ordinary that sets our work apart and allows us to touch the sublime.

We hope you will be inspired by the wisdom, and our interpretation thereof, of Paul Gauguin, plus we made this unique little portrait to begin the creative process. Time to start your creative process!
