True Palindromic Proportion - 16x61 Size

This tantilizing palindromic 16x61 size is part of a series of sizes that are the same forwards and backwards.

The Palindromic Series of canvas sizes challenges artists to explore the potential of symmetrical shapes in their work. This series is characterized by sizes that read the same forwards and backwards, such as 12x21 and 34x43. Unlike other canvas sizes, there is no actual proportion that defines these shapes, thereby creating a sense of wonder and a challenge for artists to push the boundaries of their compositions. In fact, the very symmetry of the palindromic shape can add an extra layer of intrigue and mystery to the composition, prompting viewers to question the artist's intentions and the underlying meaning of the piece.

While the use of palindromic shapes in art is not new, it continues to be a source of fascination and inspiration for many contemporary artists. These shapes can be used in a variety of ways, depending on the artist's style and vision. Some artists use palindromic shapes as a focal point, while others incorporate them into the background or use them as a pattern on the canvas. The use of palindromes can also serve as a nod to linguistic and literary elements, as they are often used in wordplay and puzzles. This reference can add a layer of meaning to the artwork, making it more engaging for viewers who appreciate the subtleties of language and symbolism.

3D™ Pro 3.5 Stretcher Bar • 1/2" Canvas Clearance

1/2" Canvas Clearance is the space between the Bar and the canvas. Generally speaking, more clearance reduces the risk of the canvas touching the wood and creating unsightly lines during painting. Our design provides the optimal clearance so as not to impact your painting, but still leaving enough wood to the maximize strength of the Stretcher Bar.

  • Produces a 3.5" deep stretched canvas (Actual depth is slightly thinner)
  • 1.25" wide Stretcher Bar
  • All Bars have an exclusive groove on the inside perimeter of the frame to which cross braces and Diamond Corner Braces attach
  • Solid Ponderosa Pine or Fir from the Pacific Northwest

No Finger Joints!

Solid Wood is far superior to finger jointed wood, which is many small pieces glued together, each with varying grain densities that absorb and shed moisture at varying rates, expanding and contracting non-uniformly as environmental conditions change, and causing the wood to bow and the finger joints to eventually fail.

A single homogeneous kiln-dried solid wood Stretcher Bar outperforms and outlasts a finger jointed Bar whose sole purpose is to save the manufacturer cost, not contribute to the archival value of artwork intended to last a millennium. As a manufacturer, Masterpiece® does its part to conserve as much wood as possible, and still provide a quality product that will out-perform any other in the marketplace.

  • Super strong 3D™ Pro K3™ Stretcher Bar is a very popular among contemporary artists whose painting will be displayed without a frame.
  • For this 16x61 large size frame, the frame provides the ultimate foundation for your art with increased strength and stability
  • Provides a 3.5" deep stretched canvas which makes a bold and commanding display
  • 1-1/4" wide Stretcher Bars
  • All Bars have an exclusive groove on the inside perimeter of the frame to which cross braces and Diamond Corner Braces attach
  • Solid Ponderosa Pine or Fir from the Pacific Northwest

Forests need People, and People Need Forests

The concept of sustainability presupposes a comprehensive engagement of individuals in the art and science of forest stewardship, both in the present and for the well-being of generations to come. Humanity undoubtedly extracts wood from forests to supplement our needs, but they also play a crucial role in bestowing diligent care upon these ecosystems. This stewardship encompasses not only the responsible harvesting of forest resources but also extends to the safeguarding of clean water sources, the preservation of wildlife and their native habitats, and the mitigation of potential threats like erosion, fires, and diseases that could otherwise lead to untimely degradation of these precious woodlands.

Masterpiece® uses only lumber harvested from responsibly and sustainably managed timberlands.

26x71 is the Canvas Size Needed for this 16x61 Frame

Please note that you will need a canvas that is at least 10 Inches larger than the actual frame size to ensure proper stretching. This will provide ample material to stretch the canvas and attach it to the back of the frame. If you prefer to attach the canvas from the edge of the stretcher frame, you can reduce the size of your canvas by approximately 3/4" all the way around the frame. This will allow you to paint on the edge of the canvas and hang your artwork without needing a separate picture frame. And, if you ever need to remove the canvas from the frame and re-attach it, you'll have enough material to do that too.

The painter tries to master color, but the layman doesn't understand. That's why we're not always able to communicate. For a time I called my pictures 'Arrangements,' but that was too artificial. The trouble is that the term 'composition' is used so often. To compose. It makes you think of someone sitting down and planning something. No, the painter composes with lines and colors, he mixes them up in a certain order, and if you're alive at all, you are forced to feel something. ♦ Edvard Munch

Renowned for his evocative and emotionally charged artworks, Edvard Munch delves deep into the artist's struggle with both their internal world and the external perceptions of it. Munch's career, distinguished by his raw, emotional expression, often found him grappling with the confines of language and terminology. He recognized that artistic language, especially when dissected and analyzed, can sometimes dilute the essence of what artists aim to convey.

For many in the artistic realm, communication becomes an intricate dance. While the intention is always to evoke emotion and provoke thought, the methodology and terminology can sometimes alienate those unfamiliar with the lexicon of art. However, as artists, we understand that our truest expressions may not always fit neatly into predefined boxes. It's in this ambiguity and fluidity where magic often lies. Munch reminds us that, in the end, it's about the raw emotion—the visceral response that art evokes. If it forces the viewer to feel, to react, to question, then our role, as artists, has been profoundly realized.
