Unlock your creativity with our Lost Size collection, starting with this 20x28 canvas. Created by Masterpiece® in the commonly used 7:5 Photography proportion, these sizes are sure to inspire and challenge artists of all levels.
True 7:5 Photography Proportion - 20x28 Size
Another widely used proportion in photography is the 7:5 aspect ratio, but is relatively uncommon in art, save for the 5x7 size. It is commonly accepted as a pleasing proportion. Some artists choose this proportion to add visual interest by breaking away from more traditional shaped canvas sizes. There are only a handful of standard canvas sizes in this ratio, but there are a whole collection of (what we call) Lost Sizes in this aspect ratio, which are often unknown sizes that add intrigue to the final composition.

3D™ Pro 3.5 Stretcher Bar • 1/2" Canvas Clearance
1/2" Canvas Clearance is the space between the Bar and the canvas. Generally speaking, more clearance reduces the risk of the canvas touching the wood and creating unsightly lines during painting. Our design provides the optimal clearance so as not to impact your painting, but still leaving enough wood to the maximize strength of the Stretcher Bar.
- Produces a 3.5" deep stretched canvas (Actual depth is slightly thinner)
- 1.25" wide Stretcher Bar
- All Bars have an exclusive groove on the inside perimeter of the frame to which cross braces and Diamond Corner Braces attach
- Solid Ponderosa Pine or Fir from the Pacific Northwest
Solid Wood is Archival - Finger Jointed Wood is Not
We only use Solid Wood to build our Stretcher Bars because a solid piece of wood will last indefinitely. When we speak of archival value, it's not just the paint you use and the quality of your canvas and ground, even the wood choices manufacturers make are part of the archival process.
The principal reason manufactures use finger jointed wood is reduce cost, not increase archival value. Wood constantly grows and shrinks when the environment becomes hotter, or colder, or more humid, or more dry. Because finger jointed wood is made-up of multiple and varied pieces of wood, with varying grain patterns and densities, they each absorb and shed moisture at varying rates, which works on the glue joints that hold them together, causing the wood to bow and the joints to eventually fail, and certainly not consistent with increasing the archival value of your artwork frame support.
As a manufacturer, we do our part to conserve as much wood as possible, and still provide a quality made product that will out-perform any other in the marketplace.
- Super strong 3D™ Pro K3™ Stretcher Bar is a very popular among contemporary artists whose painting will be displayed without a frame.
- For this 20x28 large size frame, the frame provides the ultimate foundation for your art with increased strength and stability
- Provides a 3.5" deep stretched canvas which makes a bold and commanding display
- 1-1/4" wide Stretcher Bars
- All Bars have an exclusive groove on the inside perimeter of the frame to which cross braces and Diamond Corner Braces attach
- Solid Ponderosa Pine or Fir from the Pacific Northwest
Sustainably Managed Forests
We use lumber grown in the sustainable forests of the Oregon, Washington, and California, where there’s more standing timber today than last century! Our forests purify the air, provide oxygen, and reduce global warming. More trees are needed on this planet, not fewer. Therefore, we use lumber grown in responsibly managed forests, so future generations can benefit from our collective responsible actions today.
Specially Dried and Heat Treated Lumber
Our wood is handpicked from a curated group of environmentally responsible lumber mills in the Pacific Northwest. By adhering to our precise drying and heat-treatment standards, these mills produce lumber with nearly half the moisture you'd find in common home improvement outlets or lumber yards. This meticulous process not only enhances the wood's strength—minimizing risks of cracks, splits, or bends—but also elevates its dimensional stability. Such quality, despite its premium, is paramount in creating professional canvases designed to uphold the sanctity of your cherished art throughout the years.
30x38 is the Canvas Size Needed for this 20x28 Frame
Please note that you will need a canvas that is at least 10 Inches larger than the actual frame size to ensure proper stretching. This will provide ample material to stretch the canvas and attach it to the back of the frame. If you prefer to attach the canvas from the edge of the stretcher frame, you can reduce the size of your canvas by approximately 3/4" all the way around the frame. This will allow you to paint on the edge of the canvas and hang your artwork without needing a separate picture frame. And, if you ever need to remove the canvas from the frame and re-attach it, you'll have enough material to do that too.

Poetry demands a man with special talent. It is not enough to have knowledge about some particular subject.
♦ Aristotle
When Aristotle, the ancient Greek philosopher, opined on the intricacies of poetry, he was diving into a realm beyond mere intellectual comprehension. Renowned for his expansive treatises on various subjects, from biology to ethics, Aristotle understood the distinction between acquiring knowledge and the innate ability to breathe life into words. Knowledge, he believed, was accessible to many, but the magic of poetry required an added spark: talent.
In the art world, this distinction becomes even more pronounced. While learning the techniques and mastering the craft are crucial steps, it's the inherent passion and innate talent that often sets an artist's work apart. We can study, practice, and refine our skills, but the soulful expression, the unseen touch that transforms a piece of art into a timeless masterpiece, stems from something more profound. Just as a poem becomes more than mere words on a page, our art, too, transcends the materials we use. It's a culmination of our emotions, experiences, and that indefinable talent which reminds us that while knowledge is powerful, the spirit with which we approach our work defines its true essence.
We love fanning the flames of your artistic passion. Immerse yourself in the wisdom of this intriguing quote and context, and enjoy our own unique creation of this portrait of Aristotle. Paint your heart out!
