True 3:1 Panorama Proportion - 36x108 Size
This unique 36x108 is actually a fairly common 3:1 proportion used in art and cinema.
The 3:1 Panorama a proportion is preferred by many artists who require a super wide compositional format. Of course, this proportion is popularized by photographers and cinematographers, for ultra landscape and wide angled imagery that creates a sense of scope and grandeur in a scene, like cityscapes, ocean and mountain scenes, and scenes with expansive horizons. It is described as a polyomino proportion on the order of 3 or triple-square proportion. There are several common Panorama sizes in this 3:1 aspect ratio that you will recognize, and some are intriguing custom sizes, as well.

3D™ Pro 3.5 Stretcher Bar • 1/2" Canvas Clearance
1/2" Canvas Clearance is the space between the Bar and the canvas. Generally speaking, more clearance reduces the risk of the canvas touching the wood and creating unsightly lines during painting. Our design provides the optimal clearance so as not to impact your painting, but still leaving enough wood to the maximize strength of the Stretcher Bar.
- Produces a 3.5" deep stretched canvas (Actual depth is slightly thinner)
- 1.25" wide Stretcher Bar
- All Bars have an exclusive groove on the inside perimeter of the frame to which cross braces and Diamond Corner Braces attach
- Solid Ponderosa Pine or Fir from the Pacific Northwest
Solid Wood is Archival - Finger Jointed Wood is Not
We only use Solid Wood to build our Stretcher Bars because a solid piece of wood will last indefinitely. When we speak of archival value, it's not just the paint you use and the quality of your canvas and ground, even the wood choices manufacturers make are part of the archival process.
The principal reason manufactures use finger jointed wood is reduce cost, not increase archival value. Wood constantly grows and shrinks when the environment becomes hotter, or colder, or more humid, or more dry. Because finger jointed wood is made-up of multiple and varied pieces of wood, with varying grain patterns and densities, they each absorb and shed moisture at varying rates, which works on the glue joints that hold them together, causing the wood to bow and the joints to eventually fail, and certainly not consistent with increasing the archival value of your artwork frame support.
As a manufacturer, we do our part to conserve as much wood as possible, and still provide a quality made product that will out-perform any other in the marketplace.
- Super strong 3D™ Pro K3™ Stretcher Bar is a very popular among contemporary artists whose painting will be displayed without a frame.
- For this 36x108 large size frame, the frame provides the ultimate foundation for your art with increased strength and stability
- Provides a 3.5" deep stretched canvas which makes a bold and commanding display
- 1-1/4" wide Stretcher Bars
- All Bars have an exclusive groove on the inside perimeter of the frame to which cross braces and Diamond Corner Braces attach

What is Sustainable Forestry?
To a forester, the term "sustainable" could mean exercising industry adopted forestry practices to maintain a forest indefinitely. To a logger, the process of proper care for the trees remaining after a harvest. To a landowner, their interest may lie in keeping their forest in the family. And to those of involved in the process of making and using wood-based art supplies, it can mean promoting and supporting an industry dedicated to the preservation of our precious natural resource. We can all do our part to care for our national forests.
Specially Dried and Heat Treated Lumber
Our wood is handpicked from a curated group of environmentally responsible lumber mills in the Pacific Northwest. By adhering to our precise drying and heat-treatment standards, these mills produce lumber with nearly half the moisture you'd find in common home improvement outlets or lumber yards. This meticulous process not only enhances the wood's strength—minimizing risks of cracks, splits, or bends—but also elevates its dimensional stability. Such quality, despite its premium, is paramount in creating professional canvases designed to uphold the sanctity of your cherished art throughout the years.
46x118 is the Canvas Size Needed for this 36x108 Frame
Please note that you will need a canvas that is at least 10 Inches larger than the actual frame size to ensure proper stretching. This will provide ample material to stretch the canvas and attach it to the back of the frame. If you prefer to attach the canvas from the edge of the stretcher frame, you can reduce the size of your canvas by approximately 3/4" all the way around the frame. This will allow you to paint on the edge of the canvas and hang your artwork without needing a separate picture frame. And, if you ever need to remove the canvas from the frame and re-attach it, you'll have enough material to do that too.

Degas is all right in his line; and that line is not far from the finish.
♦ Paul Gauguin
Paul Gauguin's relationship with the art world and his contemporaries was characterized by a blend of admiration, competition, and discerning critique. In this statement about Edgar Degas, another towering figure of the Post-Impressionist movement, Gauguin offers a veiled compliment, one that acknowledges Degas's brilliance but also hints at a perceived limitation in his approach to art.
Degas, known for his ballet scenes and his meticulous attention to the human form, was a master in capturing fleeting moments with precision. Gauguin's assertion that Degas is all right in his line suggests an acknowledgment of his colleague's skill within a certain domain. Yet, the subsequent suggestion that this line is not far from the finish indicates a belief that perhaps Degas had almost reached the zenith of his artistic capabilities or was close to exhausting his unique style. For artists like us, it's a nudge to always push boundaries, to never become complacent, and to continually evolve in our path.
This reflection serves as more than just a critique of Degas; it's a testament to the dynamic tensions and dialogues that existed among artists of their era. They challenged and spurred one another on, each trying to redefine the boundaries of art. As we stand before our canvases, let's remember that art is not just a solitary pursuit but a conversation, a dance of perspectives and styles. Let us take inspiration from both Gauguin's adventurous spirit and Degas's meticulous craft, weaving them into our own unique tapestry of expression.
Journey with us as we blend the wisdom and our own artistic representation of Paul Gauguin. May this alliance empower your artistic soul. Begin your masterpiece!
