Vegan Ground:
There are no animal products that make-up the sizing and the primer for this fine canvas. Historically, traditional canvas grounds have included egg tempura, pigments with cow urine, and of course, rabbit skin glue. In today's rapidly advancing world, there are many more choices available for artists who prefer non-animal based products that perform far better than their animal-based predecessors.
Titanium Dioxide (TiO2) Primer Pigment
This primer contains premium-grade Titanium Dioxide (TiO2) white pigment, renowned for its exceptional performance in acrylic priming. Its standout feature is its enduring whiteness, coupled with remarkable flexibility that persists over time. In contrast to other pigments such as zinc dioxide, Titanium Dioxide maintains its resilience, preventing brittleness as it ages. This quality ensures that artworks retain their integrity and will stand the test of time.
Monet™ Pro 1.5" Deep Bar • 1/2" Canvas Clearance
1/2" Canvas Clearance is the space between the Bar and the canvas. Generally speaking, more clearance reduces the risk of the canvas touching the wood and creating unsightly lines during painting. Our design provides the optimal clearance so as not to impact your painting, but still leaving enough wood to the maximize strength of the Stretcher Bar.
- Produces a 1.5" deep stretched canvas (Actual depth is slightly thinner)
- 1-5/8" wide Stretcher Bar
- Solid Ponderosa Pine or Fir from the Pacific Northwest
Solid Wood is Archival - Finger Jointed Wood is Not
We only use Solid Wood to build our Stretcher Bars because a solid piece of wood will last indefinitely. When we speak of archival value, it's not just the paint you use and the quality of your canvas and ground, even the wood choices manufacturers make are part of the archival process.
The principal reason manufactures use finger jointed wood is reduce cost, not increase archival value. Wood constantly grows and shrinks when the environment becomes hotter, or colder, or more humid, or more dry. Because finger jointed wood is made-up of multiple and varied pieces of wood, with varying grain patterns and densities, they each absorb and shed moisture at varying rates, which works on the glue joints that hold them together, causing the wood to bow and the joints to eventually fail, and certainly not consistent with increasing the archival value of your artwork frame support.
As a manufacturer, we do our part to conserve as much wood as possible, and still provide a quality made product that will out-perform any other in the marketplace.
5x11 Monet Pro Strainer Frame
- Drawing depicts the exact frame construction, not the proportion
- Strainer Bars are used when the short side is under 10" inches
- Fixed Corner Frame - Not keyable or expandable
- No cross braces required when the frame length is under 20", but this frame provides very robust and solid support for this 5x11 size frame
Sustainably Managed Forests Inhale and Exhale
The world's forests are essential to human survival. Forests inhale carbon dioxide for the earth, and exhale oxygen essential for life. When we speak of the sustainable forest strategy of ensuring that more timber will exist in the same forest land than exists today, this is the only viable plan for the future of humanity. For this reason, we use only lumber from the sustainable forests of Oregon, Washington, and California, where there’s more standing timber today than last century!

What I dream of is an art of balance, of purity and serenity, devoid of troubling or depressing subject matter.
♦ Henri Matisse
Henri Matisse, a luminary in the world of modern art, often found solace in the harmonious play of colors and forms. His art, characterized by vivid hues and bold shapes, encapsulated a sense of tranquility and equilibrium. Matisse's life, spanning the late 19th and mid-20th centuries, was punctuated by significant shifts in the global artistic landscape, and amidst these changes, he cultivated a unique voice that sought peace in visual expression.
When artists immerse themselves in their work, the external chaos and turbulence can sometimes bleed into the artistry. Yet, for Matisse, art became a sanctuary, a realm where simplicity and equilibrium took center stage. His dream underscores the value of introspection and the profound impact of balanced, untainted creation. For many artists, weaving personal experiences and emotions into their creations can be therapeutic. Yet, by pursuing art that exudes serenity, we can also craft a space of rejuvenation and peace for both ourselves and our audience.
Echoing the timeless spirit of artistry, we bring you this quote paired with our beautiful portrait of Henri Matisse that we created. Let your colors on the canvas speak!
