Dare to be different with our Lost Sizes collection, featuring unique canvases like this 10x15 size. Custom-made by Masterpiece® in the popular 3:2 Film proportion, these sizes are perfect for artists looking to push their boundaries.

True 3:2 Film Proportion - 10x15 Size

The 3:2 aspect ratio is a very familiar format film, computer screens, and video, and, of course, is an aesthetically appealing proportion for your artistic compositions. Most 35 mm film cameras are based on this exact proportion, so our brains are trained to see images in this same ratio. It is commonly used for landscape photography and artwork, as it allows for a wide, panoramic view of the scene. It can be used to create a sense of balance and harmony in the composition, providing depth and perspective, as the longer sides of the canvas allow for more space to depict the background or foreground elements of the scene.

Even though this proportion is widely used, there are only a handful of commonly available standard canvas sizes in this ratio. There are a whole collection of intriguing (what we call) Lost Sizes, which are uncommon sizes in this common proportion. Unusual canvas sizes add intrigue to your artwork and an additional story to tell about your painting.

Monet™ Pro 1.5" Deep Bar • 1/2" Canvas Clearance

1/2" Canvas Clearance is the space between the Bar and the canvas. Generally speaking, more clearance reduces the risk of the canvas touching the wood and creating unsightly lines during painting. Our design provides the optimal clearance so as not to impact your painting, but still leaving enough wood to the maximize strength of the Stretcher Bar.

  • Produces a 1.5" deep stretched canvas (Actual depth is slightly thinner)
  • 1-5/8" wide Stretcher Bar
  • Solid Ponderosa Pine or Fir from the Pacific Northwest

Solid Wood is Archival - Finger Jointed Wood is Not

We only use Solid Wood to build our Stretcher Bars because a solid piece of wood will last indefinitely. When we speak of archival value, it's not just the paint you use and the quality of your canvas and ground, even the wood choices manufacturers make are part of the archival process.

The principal reason manufactures use finger jointed wood is reduce cost, not increase archival value. Wood constantly grows and shrinks when the environment becomes hotter, or colder, or more humid, or more dry. Because finger jointed wood is made-up of multiple and varied pieces of wood, with varying grain patterns and densities, they each absorb and shed moisture at varying rates, which works on the glue joints that hold them together, causing the wood to bow and the joints to eventually fail, and certainly not consistent with increasing the archival value of your artwork frame support.

As a manufacturer, we do our part to conserve as much wood as possible, and still provide a quality made product that will out-perform any other in the marketplace.

10x15 Monet Pro Keyable Fame

  • Drawing depicts the exact frame construction, not the proportion
  • Precision machined heavy duty keyable tongue-and-groove Stretcher Bars
  • No cross braces required when the frame length is under 20", but this frame provides robust support for this 10x15 size
  • To increase canvas tension, remove any staples in the corners, then tap-in the included corner keys further into their slots, then re-staple the canvas

Blinding ignorance does mislead us. Oh! Wretched mortals, open your eyes. ♦ Leonardo da Vinci

Leonardo da Vinci, a polymath of the Italian Renaissance, was not just an artist but a scientist, mathematician, engineer, anatomist, and more. This breadth of knowledge allowed him to weave intricate connections between seemingly unrelated disciplines. His insatiable curiosity often led him to question the accepted norms and beliefs of his time.

His exclamation about blinding ignorance is not merely a critique of the uninformed, but a passionate plea for continuous learning and enlightenment. It's a call for introspection, for self-awareness, and for an earnest pursuit of knowledge. For artists, this serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of expanding our horizons. While we create, it's essential to remain open-minded, to continuously learn, and to not be confined by the limitations of what we think we know. In our collective endeavor, challenging our perceptions and pushing boundaries can lead to unforeseen depths in our creations.

We hope to inspire your art with this wonderful quote and our interpretation along with our own one-of-a-kind portrait of Leonardo da Vinci..got to love it!
