Monet™ Pro means a 1-1/2" deep canvas that is stretched using our MuseumWrap™ back-stapled method with folded corners. Our proprietary stretching process uses pneumatically controlled machines that we built to yield drum-tight tension. See below to learn more about the finest professional quality artist canvas on the market.

15x21 is one of the rare sizes in our Lost Size collection, exclusive to Masterpiece®! This unique series is designed with the popular 7:5 Photography proportion in mind, and we take pride in providing artists with exciting size options for their compositions.

True 7:5 Photography Proportion - 15x21 Size

Another widely used proportion in photography is the 7:5 aspect ratio, but is relatively uncommon in art, save for the 5x7 size. It is commonly accepted as a pleasing proportion. Some artists choose this proportion to add visual interest by breaking away from more traditional shaped canvas sizes. There are only a handful of standard canvas sizes in this ratio, but there are a whole collection of (what we call) Lost Sizes in this aspect ratio, which are often unknown sizes that add intrigue to the final composition.

Explore other sizes in this same 7:5 aspect ratio:

5x7 • 10x14 • 20x28 • 25x35 • 30x42 • 35x49 • 40x56 • 45x63 • 50x70 • 55x77 • 60x84

Raw #10 Cotton 14.5 oz Unprimed

Very heavy weight unprimed cotton canvas. Take control of your art, prepare your own ground, or use bare canvas expanses as part of the art. Great for staining or pouring, resulting in a fluid and spontaneous convergence of the image and fabric.

  • 100% Cotton 14.5 oz. per square yard
  • Very Heavy Weight, Dense Weave, Robust Texture

Monet™ Pro 1.5" Deep Bar • 1/2" Canvas Clearance

1/2" Canvas Clearance is the space between the Bar and the canvas. Generally speaking, more clearance reduces the risk of the canvas touching the wood and creating unsightly lines during painting. Our design provides the optimal clearance so as not to impact your painting, but still leaving enough wood to the maximize strength of the Stretcher Bar.

  • Produces a 1.5" deep stretched canvas canvas (Actual depth is slightly thinner)
  • 1-5/8" wide Stretcher Bar
  • Frames with a dimension of 20" and up have a groove machined in the center inside perimeter to which cross braces attach
  • Solid Ponderosa Pine or Fir from the Pacific Northwest

No Finger Joints!

Solid Wood is far superior to finger jointed wood, which is many small pieces glued together, each with varying grain densities that absorb and shed moisture at varying rates, expanding and contracting non-uniformly as environmental conditions change, and causing the wood to bow and the finger joints to eventually fail.

A single homogeneous kiln-dried solid wood Stretcher Bar outperforms and outlasts a finger jointed Bar whose sole purpose is to save the manufacturer cost, not contribute to the archival value of artwork intended to last a millennium. As a manufacturer, Masterpiece® does its part to conserve as much wood as possible, and still provide a quality product that will out-perform any other in the marketplace.

15x21 Monet Pro Keyable Braced Frame

  • Drawing depicts the exact frame construction, not the proportion
  • Precision machined heavy duty keyable tongue-and-groove Stretcher Bars
  • A 3/4" thick keyable brace (1.5" wide) provides sturdy support for this 15x21 size frame - Brace may be removed in reinserted at any time
  • An exclusive slot is milled on the inside perimeter of the 21 Stretcher Bars to which the Brace and the expansion wedges attach
  • Patented keyable brace allows the frame to be tensioned in the middle of the canvas, where the tension needed the most
  • To increase canvas tension: 1) remove any staples in the corners and those that retain the brace keys in the middle, 2) tap all of the expansion keys further into their respective slots, 3) tighten and re-staple the canvas in the corners

Canvas Tension is in Your Control

In dry climates or air conditioned environments, the lack of moisture in the air causes wood frames to shrink and the canvas fibers to narrow and elongate making the canvas more slack and resulting in a loss of canvas tension. In some instances, the canvas could have waves on the surface resulting in an unsightly viewing experience.

Our Monet™ Pro professional frames provide the functionality for you to slightly expand the size of the frame in the corners and the middle of the canvas, thereby increasing canvas tension all across the surface. The difference between a loose canvas and a tight canvas is just 1/8", so a small adjustment using our corner and brace keys makes an important difference in canvas tension.

  • Helps to prevent waves that occur in a loose canvas
  • Increase canvas tension by tapping-in the corner and brace keys
  • True professional class canvases make it possible for you to adjust the canvas tension

Cross Braces Make it Tighter

A tightly stretched canvas on an un-braced frame overpowers the Stretcher Bars causing them to bow inward and thereby lose tension. Sometimes that bow can expose a space in picture frames.

When a canvas is stretched on a properly supported frame, the cross-braces prevent the Bars from bowing thereby achieving maximum canvas tension. To increase the canvas tension even more, simply tap the corner and brace keys further in their slots. Properly supported frames provide you with the control over the canvas tension of your canvas and painting.

I paint in order not to cry. ♦ Paul Klee

The intricate tapestry of Paul Klee's life, woven with threads of profound emotion and introspection, brings to light the intense interplay between art and the human soul. Klee, a central figure of the modernist movement, was not just a painter but also a theorist and a poet of colors. His works, a blend of surrealism, cubism, and expressionism, were deeply influenced by his personal experiences and emotions.

When artists, like Klee, channel their emotions into their creations, it becomes a form of catharsis. The canvas, the paints, and the brush strokes allow us to navigate and process our innermost feelings. It becomes a sanctuary, a place where we can confront, understand, and sometimes even find solace from the tumultuous waves of emotions that threaten to overwhelm us. Klee's sentiment is a powerful reminder that for many of us, art is not just a profession or a hobby—it's a lifeline, a refuge, a means to find equilibrium in the ever-changing landscape of our lives.

We believe in the power of words to inspire, and the magic of art to connect. Enjoy this meaningful quote with contextual background, and admire our unique rendition of Paul Klee to complement your imagination. Get busy on your next composition!
