Vegan Ground:
There are no animal products that make-up the sizing and the primer for this fine canvas. Historically, traditional canvas grounds have included egg tempura, pigments with cow urine, and of course, rabbit skin glue. In today's rapidly advancing world, there are many more choices available for artists who prefer non-animal based products that perform far better than their animal-based predecessors.
Titanium Dioxide (TiO2) Primer Pigment
This primer contains premium-grade Titanium Dioxide (TiO2) white pigment, renowned for its exceptional performance in acrylic priming. Its standout feature is its enduring whiteness, coupled with remarkable flexibility that persists over time. In contrast to other pigments such as zinc dioxide, Titanium Dioxide maintains its resilience, preventing brittleness as it ages. This quality ensures that artworks retain their integrity and will stand the test of time.
Monet™ Pro 1.5" Deep Bar • 1/2" Canvas Clearance
1/2" Canvas Clearance is the space between the Bar and the canvas. Generally speaking, more clearance reduces the risk of the canvas touching the wood and creating unsightly lines during painting. Our design provides the optimal clearance so as not to impact your painting, but still leaving enough wood to the maximize strength of the Stretcher Bar.
- Produces a 1.5" deep stretched canvas (Actual depth is slightly thinner)
- 1-5/8" wide Stretcher Bar
- Solid Ponderosa Pine or Fir from the Pacific Northwest
Solid Wood is Archival - Finger Jointed Wood is Not
We only use Solid Wood to build our Stretcher Bars because a solid piece of wood will last indefinitely. When we speak of archival value, it's not just the paint you use and the quality of your canvas and ground, even the wood choices manufacturers make are part of the archival process.
The principal reason manufactures use finger jointed wood is reduce cost, not increase archival value. Wood constantly grows and shrinks when the environment becomes hotter, or colder, or more humid, or more dry. Because finger jointed wood is made-up of multiple and varied pieces of wood, with varying grain patterns and densities, they each absorb and shed moisture at varying rates, which works on the glue joints that hold them together, causing the wood to bow and the joints to eventually fail, and certainly not consistent with increasing the archival value of your artwork frame support.
As a manufacturer, we do our part to conserve as much wood as possible, and still provide a quality made product that will out-perform any other in the marketplace.
6x15 Monet Pro Strainer Frame
- Drawing depicts the exact frame construction, not the proportion
- Strainer Bars are used when the short side is under 10" inches
- Fixed Corner Frame - Not keyable or expandable
- No cross braces required when the frame length is under 20", but this frame provides very robust and solid support for this 6x15 size frame

♦ Paul Klee
A central figure in modern art, Paul Klee had an unparalleled understanding of the artistic process's intricacies. This quote echoes the countless hours of labor, endless revisions, and the myriad ideas that an artist might abandon or transform before settling on a final creation. Klee suggests the depth of commitment, the choices made, and the potential masterpieces that never came to fruition, all for the sake of birthing the piece in front of us.
It's a sentiment many artists can deeply relate to. In our art careers, the paths we choose inevitably mean leaving other paths unexplored. Every canvas we present is a culmination of choices, some of which might have been difficult to make. For every artwork displayed in a gallery or a studio, there might be countless others that were reimagined, overpainted, or remained hidden, never seeing the light of day. Klee's words remind us to value the unseen journey behind every artwork and understand that the creative process often involves sacrifice, prioritization, and the courage to let go. But in that process, we find our voice, our style, and our most authentic self.
Art is visual and ripe with meaning, so enjoy this quote and our interpretation of its meaning, plus an one-of-a-kind portrait we created of Paul Klee to make it all the more relevant. Pick up that brush and go!
