True Dynamic Root-2 Proportion - 7x10 Size

This 7x10 is one of our Dynamic Root-2 Rectangle Root-2 Rectangle series.

The Dynamic Root-2 rectangle is an interesting proportion based on organizing your spatial composition with endless symmetrical divisions. The premise in Jay Hambridge's 1926 book is that the Dynamic Symmetry of individual elements are informed by their relationship to the entire composition. This very special proportion is guided by the square roots of integers and has a storied and historical basis in art.

_

It involves the use of geometric shapes and patterns in the proportion of the square root of 2 to 1 to create balance and harmony in a composition. This can be achieved by dividing a composition into a grid of squares or rectangles, and then placing elements within the grid in a way that follows the principles of dynamic symmetry. Dynamic symmetry is often used to create a sense of order and structure in a composition, and can be particularly useful for creating compositions that are harmonious and pleasing to the eye.

Vincent™ Pro 7/8" Deep Bar • 5/16" Canvas Clearance

5/16" Canvas Clearance is the space between the Bar and the canvas. Generally speaking, more clearance reduces the risk of the canvas touching the wood and creating unsightly lines during painting. Our design provides the optimal clearance so as not to impact your painting, but still leaving enough wood to the maximize strength of the Stretcher Bar.

  • Produces a 7/8" deep stretched canvas
  • 1.5" wide Stretcher Bar
  • Solid Ponderosa Pine or Fir from the Pacific Northwest

Finger Jointed Wood is not meant for Stretcher Bars

Solid wood makes the most dependable Stretcher Bar, because one homogeneous wood member is going to behave similarly across the entire length of the Bar. Whereas, with finger-jointed wood is made-up of multiple pieces of wood, sometimes on the actual joint itself, presenting multiple points of failure which no one can control.

We only use Solid Wood to build our Stretcher Bars because a solid piece of wood will last indefinitely. When we speak of archival value, it's not just the paint you use and the quality of your canvas and ground, even the wood choices manufacturers add or reduce value to your final painting. The fact is, you don't want problems, and finger joints only increase that risk of the wood falling apart in the future.

The glue used to bind finger joints is a water based adhesive and when that wood is exposed to high humidity environments, particularly with exterior walls, the glue joints can give-up. As a manufacturer, Masterpiece® does its part to conserve as much wood as possible, and still provide a quality product that will out-perform any other in the marketplace.

It is on color that I built my construction, my work in painting. ♦ Robert Delaunay

Delving into the world of Robert Delaunay reveals an artist for whom color was not just a mere aspect of his work, but its very foundation. When Delaunay spoke of constructing his artwork on color, he was signaling to a profound belief: that color itself can be a transformative force, shaping perceptions, invoking emotions, and guiding artistic narratives.

For many of us in the realm of art, color serves as a powerful tool. It's a language through which we communicate, expressing nuances that words might fail to capture. Delaunay's commitment to color was not just a stylistic choice but a philosophical one. He believed that colors could interact, vibrate, and create harmonies, much like musical notes in a composition. This belief translated into his revolutionary approach to painting, where he manipulated colors to create depth, movement, and dynamism without relying on traditional methods of perspective and shading.

By understanding and embracing Delaunay's reverence for color, we can challenge ourselves to think beyond the conventional. It nudges us to question how we can use color in ways that push boundaries and redefine norms. Whether we're selecting a palette for a new piece or reflecting on our path, Delaunay's words serve as a beacon, reminding us of the limitless potential that awaits when we let color lead the way.
