True 7:5 Photography Proportion - 5x7 Size

And 5x7, of course, is one of the most popular sizes ever in both photography and art..ever!

Another widely used proportion in photography is the 7:5 aspect ratio, but is relatively uncommon in art, save for the 5x7 size. It is commonly accepted as a pleasing proportion. Some artists choose this proportion to add visual interest by breaking away from more traditional shaped canvas sizes. There are only a handful of standard canvas sizes in this ratio, but there are a whole collection of (what we call) Lost Sizes in this aspect ratio, which are often unknown sizes that add intrigue to the final composition.

Vincent™ Pro 7/8" Deep Bar • 5/16" Canvas Clearance

5/16" Canvas Clearance is the space between the Bar and the canvas. Generally speaking, more clearance reduces the risk of the canvas touching the wood and creating unsightly lines during painting. Our design provides the optimal clearance so as not to impact your painting, but still leaving enough wood to the maximize strength of the Stretcher Bar.

  • Produces a 7/8" deep stretched canvas
  • 1.5" wide Stretcher Bar
  • Solid Ponderosa Pine or Fir from the Pacific Northwest

Finger Jointed Wood is not meant for Stretcher Bars

Solid wood makes the most dependable Stretcher Bar, because one homogeneous wood member is going to behave similarly across the entire length of the Bar. Whereas, with finger-jointed wood is made-up of multiple pieces of wood, sometimes on the actual joint itself, presenting multiple points of failure which no one can control.

We only use Solid Wood to build our Stretcher Bars because a solid piece of wood will last indefinitely. When we speak of archival value, it's not just the paint you use and the quality of your canvas and ground, even the wood choices manufacturers add or reduce value to your final painting. The fact is, you don't want problems, and finger joints only increase that risk of the wood falling apart in the future.

The glue used to bind finger joints is a water based adhesive and when that wood is exposed to high humidity environments, particularly with exterior walls, the glue joints can give-up. As a manufacturer, Masterpiece® does its part to conserve as much wood as possible, and still provide a quality product that will out-perform any other in the marketplace.

Abstract art places a new world, which on the surface has nothing to do with 'reality,' next to the 'real' world. ♦ Wassily Kandinsky

Wassily Kandinsky, often hailed as the pioneer of abstract art, ventured into realms previously uncharted in the art world. Born in Moscow, Kandinsky's evolution as an artist was characterized by his deep interest in spirituality and the synthesis of arts. He believed that colors and forms possessed a spirit and meaning of their own, independent of the objects they represented. It was this belief that led him to push the boundaries of visual representation, detaching it from the need to depict the physical world.

In the realm of abstract art, we artists find a unique kind of freedom. It is an invitation to explore a world untethered from the confines of realism. Kandinsky encourages us to understand that while our creations may not echo the tangible reality surrounding us, they create a new dimension of reality in themselves. This newly forged world, birthed from our thoughts, emotions, and experiences, stands proudly next to what is conventionally perceived as 'real'. It serves as a reminder that the worlds we conjure in our art are as valid and significant as the one we navigate daily. It's an empowering thought, urging us to continuously redefine and expand our understanding of reality through our creations.

We are passionate about art, so we curated this enlightening quote and provide insight to it's meaning, plus to excite your senses, we included an inimitable portrait we made of Wassily Kandinsky. Now get busy on your own!
