8x16 Hardcore Pro Muir Plein Air Canvas Panel #HA-0816

True 2:1 Domino Proportion - 8x16 Size

8x16 is one of our popular Domino 2:1 sizes.

The 2:1 aspect ratio, that we call the domino proportion, also offers a unique canvas for artists to play with the perception of space and depth within their compositions. The elongated format allows for the inclusion of foreground, middle ground, and background elements, creating a sense of distance and scale that draws the viewer's eye into the artwork. This aspect ratio has been used by artists throughout history, from ancient Egyptian tomb paintings to Renaissance frescoes to contemporary photography. Its versatility and timelessness make it a classic choice for artists seeking to create dynamic and engaging compositions.

Vegan Ground:

There are no animal products that make-up the sizing and the primer for this fine canvas. Historically, traditional canvas grounds have included egg tempura, pigments with cow urine, and of course, rabbit skin glue. In today's rapidly advancing world, there are many more choices available for artists who prefer non-animal based products that perform far better than their animal-based predecessors.

Titanium Dioxide (TiO₂) Primer Pigment

This primer contains premium-grade Titanium Dioxide (TiO₂) white pigment, renowned for its exceptional performance in acrylic priming. Its standout feature is its enduring whiteness, coupled with remarkable flexibility that persists over time. In contrast to other pigments such as zinc dioxide, Titanium Dioxide maintains its resilience, preventing brittleness as it ages. This quality ensures that artworks retain their integrity and will stand the test of time.

Our Hardcore™ Pro Pro Canvas Panels are the flattest on the market. They are made using MDF (medium density fiberboard) which is the highest quality engineered wood board on the market. Moisture in the board can cause undesirable results to the panel and your artwork, which is why we size the board with four layers on the front before the canvas is mounted, thereby defending against moisture getting into the board and underneath your artwork.

Canvas Panels should be as flat as possible, otherwise, they don't display well in a frame, and can create spaces between the artwork and the frame. A bowed panel is also a sign of having been impacted by the effect of moisture. Canvas can shrink, even after it is mounted on the board. For this reason, Masterpiece® developed a unique proprietary process that stress-relieves each panel, thereby virtually eliminating the bow that is commonly found in competing panel products. Hardcore™ Pro Canvas Panels provide a stable foundation for your art.

I wanted something new — a new departure, and I seemed to find it in this way. ♦ Paul Gauguin

Paul Gauguin's quest for the novel was a defining characteristic of his life and art career. Born in Paris, he led a life that many would have settled into comfortably — a stint in the navy, a successful career in stockbroking, and a family. Yet, an undercurrent of restlessness persisted. The artistic fervor within him wasn't content with the mundane or the conventional. In his pursuit of artistic truth and originality, he left behind his life in Europe to venture into unfamiliar territories, both geographically and artistically.

Such a longing for innovation and change is something that we, in the art world, can relate to. The canvas, for many of us, isn't just a surface to paint on but a realm of infinite possibilities, where the known can be challenged and the unknown can be explored. Gauguin's words are a testament to the fact that even in moments of uncertainty or doubt, pushing boundaries and seeking fresh perspectives can lead to profound revelations. It beckons us to be courageous in our pursuits, to be willing to venture into the unfamiliar, and to trust that in doing so, we will unveil layers of our creativity previously untouched.
