4x8 Hardcore Pro Pau Plein Air Canvas Panel #HP-0408

True 2:1 Domino Proportion - 4x8 Size

An intriguing Domino size!

The 2:1 aspect ratio, that we call the domino proportion, also offers a unique canvas for artists to play with the perception of space and depth within their compositions. The elongated format allows for the inclusion of foreground, middle ground, and background elements, creating a sense of distance and scale that draws the viewer's eye into the artwork. This aspect ratio has been used by artists throughout history, from ancient Egyptian tomb paintings to Renaissance frescoes to contemporary photography. Its versatility and timelessness make it a classic choice for artists seeking to create dynamic and engaging compositions.

Titanium Dioxide (TiO₂) Primer Pigment

This primer contains premium-grade Titanium Dioxide (TiO₂) white pigment, renowned for its exceptional performance in acrylic priming. Its standout feature is its enduring whiteness, coupled with remarkable flexibility that persists over time. In contrast to other pigments such as zinc dioxide, Titanium Dioxide maintains its resilience, preventing brittleness as it ages. This quality ensures that artworks retain their integrity and will stand the test of time.

Artfix Pau™ Portrait Smooth Belgian Linen offers a luxurious surface, ideal for highly detailed work. Preferred by portrait artists because it is so smooth for linen. Due to the nature of how flax plants are turned into linen textiles, there may be variations in yarn thickness thereby creating fabric that is individual in nature and has character. There can be infrequent naturally occurring nubs in the linen which may yield small slight bumps where the linen is a little thicker than the rest of the strand. This is normal and part of what gives linen its character.

Our Hardcore™ Pro Pro Canvas Panels are the flattest on the market. They are made using MDF (medium density fiberboard) which is the highest quality engineered wood board on the market. Moisture in the board can cause undesirable results to the panel and your artwork, which is why we size the board with four layers on the front before the canvas is mounted, thereby defending against moisture getting into the board and underneath your artwork.

Canvas Panels should be as flat as possible, otherwise, they don't display well in a frame, and can create spaces between the artwork and the frame. A bowed panel is also a sign of having been impacted by the effect of moisture. Canvas can shrink, even after it is mounted on the board. For this reason, Masterpiece® developed a unique proprietary process that stress-relieves each panel, thereby virtually eliminating the bow that is commonly found in competing panel products. Hardcore™ Pro Canvas Panels provide a stable foundation for your art.

The more laws, the less justice. ♦ Cicero

Cicero, a luminary of ancient Rome, was not just an orator and philosopher, but also a lawyer deeply embedded in the political landscape of his era. His experiences within the convoluted Roman legal system and the tumultuous political upheavals of the time shaped this poignant observation. He saw firsthand how an overabundance of laws could sometimes act as a smokescreen, obscuring the true essence of justice and allowing for manipulation and misuse.

Artists can draw a parallel to the myriad rules and conventions that sometimes envelop creative expression. While certain guidelines can provide a foundation, becoming overly bound by them can stifle innovation and genuine expression. We should remember that our primary allegiance is to the spirit of our craft rather than rigid prescriptions. Just as Cicero championed the pure essence of justice over convoluted legalities, we too should prioritize authenticity and genuine expression over externally imposed norms.
