4x8 Hardcore Pro Carmel Plein Air Canvas Panel #HC-0408

True 2:1 Domino Proportion - 4x8 Size

An intriguing Domino size!

The 2:1 aspect ratio, that we call the domino proportion, also offers a unique canvas for artists to play with the perception of space and depth within their compositions. The elongated format allows for the inclusion of foreground, middle ground, and background elements, creating a sense of distance and scale that draws the viewer's eye into the artwork. This aspect ratio has been used by artists throughout history, from ancient Egyptian tomb paintings to Renaissance frescoes to contemporary photography. Its versatility and timelessness make it a classic choice for artists seeking to create dynamic and engaging compositions.

Vegan Ground:

There are no animal products that make-up the sizing and the primer for this fine canvas. Historically, traditional canvas grounds have included egg tempura, pigments with cow urine, and of course, rabbit skin glue. In today's rapidly advancing world, there are many more choices available for artists who prefer non-animal based products that perform far better than their animal-based predecessors.

Titanium Dioxide (TiO₂) Primer Pigment

This primer contains premium-grade Titanium Dioxide (TiO₂) white pigment, renowned for its exceptional performance in acrylic priming. Its standout feature is its enduring whiteness, coupled with remarkable flexibility that persists over time. In contrast to other pigments such as zinc dioxide, Titanium Dioxide maintains its resilience, preventing brittleness as it ages. This quality ensures that artworks retain their integrity and will stand the test of time.

Our Hardcore™ Pro Pro Canvas Panels are the flattest on the market. They are made using MDF (medium density fiberboard) which is the highest quality engineered wood board on the market. Moisture in the board can cause undesirable results to the panel and your artwork, which is why we size the board with four layers on the front before the canvas is mounted, thereby defending against moisture getting into the board and underneath your artwork.

Canvas Panels should be as flat as possible, otherwise, they don't display well in a frame, and can create spaces between the artwork and the frame. A bowed panel is also a sign of having been impacted by the effect of moisture. Canvas can shrink, even after it is mounted on the board. For this reason, Masterpiece® developed a unique proprietary process that stress-relieves each panel, thereby virtually eliminating the bow that is commonly found in competing panel products. Hardcore™ Pro Canvas Panels provide a stable foundation for your art.

The sculptor produces the beautiful statue by chipping away such parts of the marble block as are not needed—it is a process of elimination. ♦ Elbert Hubbard

Elbert Hubbard, an influential writer and philosopher, illuminated the world with his wisdom, emphasizing the art of refining and honing one's craft. While his words may, on the surface, point to the literal art of sculpting, they delve much deeper, touching on the essence of creation across disciplines. By citing the sculptor's art of subtraction, he underscores that perfection often arises from discerning what to omit rather than what to add.

In our path as artists, we encounter countless choices, techniques, and ideas to experiment with. But over time, maturity and growth in our craft mean recognizing that not every stroke, note, or word is essential. Just as the sculptor reveals the statue's true form by chiseling away the excess, we too discover the essence of our work by shedding unnecessary layers. This notion of less is more becomes evident, reminding us that sometimes restraint and discernment are just as crucial as abundance and complexity.

For us, Hubbard's insight serves as a beacon, highlighting the importance of clarity, focus, and intent in our work. In every brushstroke we lay or note we play, we must ask ourselves if it adds to our envisioned masterpiece or merely clutters the canvas. In embracing this process of elimination, we don't just refine our art; we uncover its very soul, presenting it in its purest, most genuine form for the world to cherish.
