True 3:2 Film Proportion - 4x6 Size

The 3:2 aspect ratio is a very familiar format film, computer screens, and video, and, of course, is an aesthetically appealing proportion for your artistic compositions. Most 35 mm film cameras are based on this exact proportion, so our brains are trained to see images in this same ratio. It is commonly used for landscape photography and artwork, as it allows for a wide, panoramic view of the scene. It can be used to create a sense of balance and harmony in the composition, providing depth and perspective, as the longer sides of the canvas allow for more space to depict the background or foreground elements of the scene.

Even though this proportion is widely used, there are only a handful of commonly available standard canvas sizes in this ratio. There are a whole collection of intriguing (what we call) Lost Sizes, which are uncommon sizes in this common proportion. Unusual canvas sizes add intrigue to your artwork and an additional story to tell about your painting.

Vegan Ground:

There are no animal products that make-up the sizing and the primer for this fine canvas. Historically, traditional canvas grounds have included egg tempura, pigments with cow urine, and of course, rabbit skin glue. In today's rapidly advancing world, there are many more choices available for artists who prefer non-animal based products that perform far better than their animal-based predecessors.

Titanium Dioxide (TiO₂) Primer Pigment

This primer contains premium-grade Titanium Dioxide (TiO₂) white pigment, renowned for its exceptional performance in acrylic priming. Its standout feature is its enduring whiteness, coupled with remarkable flexibility that persists over time. In contrast to other pigments such as zinc dioxide, Titanium Dioxide maintains its resilience, preventing brittleness as it ages. This quality ensures that artworks retain their integrity and will stand the test of time.

Our Hardcore™ Pro Pro Canvas Panels are the flattest on the market. They are made using MDF (medium density fiberboard) which is the highest quality engineered wood board on the market. Moisture in the board can cause undesirable results to the panel and your artwork, which is why we size the board with four layers on the front before the canvas is mounted, thereby defending against moisture getting into the board and underneath your artwork.

Canvas Panels should be as flat as possible, otherwise, they don't display well in a frame, and can create spaces between the artwork and the frame. A bowed panel is also a sign of having been impacted by the effect of moisture. Canvas can shrink, even after it is mounted on the board. For this reason, Masterpiece® developed a unique proprietary process that stress-relieves each panel, thereby virtually eliminating the bow that is commonly found in competing panel products. Hardcore™ Pro Canvas Panels provide a stable foundation for your art.

The whole is more than the sum of its parts. ♦ Peter Paul Rubens

Peter Paul Rubens, the Flemish Baroque painter known for his extravagant compositions and masterful use of color, shared this profound insight into the essence of art. Born in 1577, Rubens' artistic legacy is characterized by his ability to create harmonious and dynamic compositions that transcend mere representation. His quote invites us, as artists, to explore the deeper layers of our craft and discover the magic that emerges when individual elements come together to form a cohesive whole.

Rubens was not only a gifted painter but also a diplomat and scholar. His vast knowledge and appreciation of classical art and philosophy greatly influenced his work. He understood that a painting's impact is not solely determined by the technical prowess of its parts but by the collective energy and synergy they generate. In a world where we often focus on perfecting individual brushstrokes or color palettes, Rubens reminds us to step back and view our creations as a unified narrative, where every stroke and hue contributes to a greater, transcendent whole.

As artists, we can draw inspiration from Rubens' holistic perspective. It encourages us to see our work as more than the sum of our efforts, to seek the hidden connections and narratives that emerge when we embrace the entirety of our creative process. In doing so, we can tap into the profound and transformative power of art, where the whole truly becomes greater than the sum of its parts.
