Monet™ Pro means a 1-1/2" deep canvas that is stretched using our MuseumWrap™ back-stapled method with folded corners. Our proprietary stretching process uses pneumatically controlled machines that we built to yield drum-tight tension. See below to learn more about the finest professional quality artist canvas on the market.

True 12:11 Near Square Proportion - 11x12 Size

This large 11x12 near square size is based in the 12:11 aspect ratio.

The 12:11 aspect ratio offers a subtle shift from a perfect square, creating just enough asymmetry to add tension and intrigue to a composition. This near-square format gives a slight horizontal or vertical emphasis, depending on orientation, allowing for balance while introducing a hint of movement or expansion.

This ratio works well when aiming to create compositions that feel stable but not static. It’s ideal for portraits, still life, or minimalist scenes where balance is key, but a perfect square might feel too formal or constrained. The slight elongation invites exploration of how space is used without overwhelming the viewer, making it a versatile choice for pieces that require a quiet, understated energy.

Monterey™ 7oz Acrylic Primed Cotton

An all-around great canvas, extraordinary value, and our top selling canvas surface across all our products. It is our premium quality all-purpose canvas suitable for most all techniques.

  • 100% Cotton 7 oz.; Primed Weight 10.5 oz. per square yard
  • Medium Weight, Medium Weave, Medium Texture
  • Sized and Double Primed with acid-free archival quality acrylic gesso
  • Impenetrable ground prevents oil paint from leaching through and harming the canvas
  • For acrylics, oils, alkyds, and water miscible oil paints

Vegan Ground:

There are no animal products that make-up the sizing and the primer for this fine canvas. Historically, traditional canvas grounds have included egg tempura, pigments with cow urine, and of course, rabbit skin glue. In today's rapidly advancing world, there are many more choices available for artists who prefer non-animal based products that perform far better than their animal-based predecessors.

Titanium Dioxide (TiO2) Primer Pigment

This primer contains premium-grade Titanium Dioxide (TiO2) white pigment, renowned for its exceptional performance in acrylic priming. Its standout feature is its enduring whiteness, coupled with remarkable flexibility that persists over time. In contrast to other pigments such as zinc dioxide, Titanium Dioxide maintains its resilience, preventing brittleness as it ages. This quality ensures that artworks retain their integrity and will stand the test of time.

Monet™ Pro 1.5" Deep Bar • 1/2" Canvas Clearance

1/2" Canvas Clearance is the space between the Bar and the canvas. Generally speaking, more clearance reduces the risk of the canvas touching the wood and creating unsightly lines during painting. Our design provides the optimal clearance so as not to impact your painting, but still leaving enough wood to the maximize strength of the Stretcher Bar.

  • Produces a 1.5" deep stretched canvas (Actual depth is slightly thinner)
  • 1-5/8" wide Stretcher Bar
  • Solid Ponderosa Pine or Fir from the Pacific Northwest

No Finger Joints!

Solid Wood is far superior to finger jointed wood, which is many small pieces glued together, each with varying grain densities that absorb and shed moisture at varying rates, expanding and contracting non-uniformly as environmental conditions change, and causing the wood to bow and the finger joints to eventually fail.

A single homogeneous kiln-dried solid wood Stretcher Bar outperforms and outlasts a finger jointed Bar whose sole purpose is to save the manufacturer cost, not contribute to the archival value of artwork intended to last a millennium. As a manufacturer, Masterpiece® does its part to conserve as much wood as possible, and still provide a quality product that will out-perform any other in the marketplace.

11x12 Monet Pro Keyable Fame

  • Drawing depicts the exact frame construction, not the proportion
  • Precision machined heavy duty keyable tongue-and-groove Stretcher Bars
  • No cross braces required when the frame length is under 20", but this frame provides robust support for this 11x12 size
  • To increase canvas tension, remove any staples in the corners, then tap-in the included corner keys further into their slots, then re-staple the canvas

Tree Replanting - Essential to Sustainably Managed Forests

Harvesting timber provides humans with an essential natural resource, but replanting trees at a rate higher than a harvest is a key component in humanity's effort to guarantee a healthy forest for the future. Increasing our number of trees is just as essential to our economy, as the harvest itself, which is why we select only timber harvested from responsibly managed forests.

Everything changes, even stone. ♦ Claude Monet

The pioneer of Impressionism, Monet spent much of his career capturing the ephemeral nature of light and color. His paintings, characterized by fleeting moments of beauty, were more about the perception of a scene than its literal representation. This sentiment, recognizing the ever-changing nature of even the seemingly immutable, underscores Monet's philosophy of embracing transience in his works.

In our creative paths, this insight serves as a powerful reminder. As artists, we witness the evolution of ideas, styles, and mediums. What once was seen as unyielding or constant in our craft can be transformed by a fresh perspective or new technique. Just as stone, with time and external factors, can erode, shift, or even sparkle in unexpected ways, our art, too, remains in flux, shaped by experiences and growth. Monet's observation nudges us to embrace this dynamic nature, continually seeking innovation and challenging the perceived constants in our artistic endeavors.

Journey with us as we blend the wisdom and our own artistic representation of Claude Monet. May this alliance empower your artistic soul. Begin your masterpiece!
