True Dynamic Root-5 Proportion - 8x18 Size

This 8x18 is one of our Dynamic Root-5 Rectangle Root-5 Rectangle series.

The Dynamic Root-5 rectangle is an inspiring proportion based on organizing your spatial composition with endless symmetrical divisions. The premise in Jay Hambridge's 1926 book is that the Dynamic Symmetry of individual elements are informed by their relationship to the entire composition. This very special proportion is guided by the square roots of integers and has a storied and historical basis in art.

It involves the use of geometric shapes and patterns in the proportion of the square root of 5 to 1 to create balance and harmony in a composition. This can be achieved by dividing a composition into a grid of squares or rectangles, and then placing elements within the grid in a way that follows the principles of dynamic symmetry. Dynamic symmetry is often used to create a sense of order and structure in a composition, and can be particularly useful for creating compositions that are harmonious and pleasing to the eye.

Raw Torrey Pines™ Belgian Linen 9.6 oz Unprimed

Heavy-weight dense-weave raw unprimed Belgian Linen. Take control of your art by preparing your own ground on Belgian Linen canvas. Use bare expanses of canvas as part of the painting or simply create the ground exactly ask you like.

  • 100% Belgian Linen 9.6 oz. per square yard
  • Heavy Weight, Tight Weave, Medium Texture
  • Raw fabric blocks 94% of the light, which indicates how tight is the weave
  • Warp and Weft: 40x36 yarns per square inch
  • Linen has natural oils that prevent disintegration over time.

Monet™ Pro 1.5" Deep Bar • 1/2" Canvas Clearance

1/2" Canvas Clearance is the space between the Bar and the canvas. Generally speaking, more clearance reduces the risk of the canvas touching the wood and creating unsightly lines during painting. Our design provides the optimal clearance so as not to impact your painting, but still leaving enough wood to the maximize strength of the Stretcher Bar.

  • Produces a 1.5" deep stretched canvas (Actual depth is slightly thinner)
  • 1-5/8" wide Stretcher Bar
  • Solid Ponderosa Pine or Fir from the Pacific Northwest

No Finger Joints!

Solid Wood is far superior to finger jointed wood, which is many small pieces glued together, each with varying grain densities that absorb and shed moisture at varying rates, expanding and contracting non-uniformly as environmental conditions change, and causing the wood to bow and the finger joints to eventually fail.

A single homogeneous kiln-dried solid wood Stretcher Bar outperforms and outlasts a finger jointed Bar whose sole purpose is to save the manufacturer cost, not contribute to the archival value of artwork intended to last a millennium. As a manufacturer, Masterpiece® does its part to conserve as much wood as possible, and still provide a quality product that will out-perform any other in the marketplace.

8x18 Monet Pro Strainer Frame

  • Drawing depicts the exact frame construction, not the proportion
  • Strainer Bars are used when the short side is under 10" inches
  • Fixed Corner Frame - Not keyable or expandable
  • No cross braces required when the frame length is under 20", but this frame provides very robust and solid support for this 8x18 size frame

MuseumWrap™ Stretching Technique

With more than a half a century of American engineering, Masterpiece® designs and builds its own proprietary stretching equipment that enables us to produce the finest and most tightly-stretched canvas on the market.

  • Drum-tight stretch!
  • Up to 50% tighter than other methods
  • Balanced tension across the surface
  • Uncut folded corners make it possible to remove and re-stretch canvas on the same size frame
  • Usually the corner folds are on the long sides

Monet Pro Professional canvases are built one-by-one and stretched using our proprietary stretching process called, MuseumWrap™, which relies on in-house custom-built pneumatic machinery that delivers consistently drum-tight stretched canvas, balanced tension across the canvas surface, neatly folded uncut corners, and paintable edges. It is the absolute best way to stretch a canvas.

Painting is poetry that is seen rather than felt, and poetry is a painting that is felt rather than seen. ♦ Leonardo da Vinci

Leonardo da Vinci, a luminary of the Renaissance era, had an uncanny ability to intertwine different artistic mediums, effortlessly blending the visual and the verbal. This observation highlights the intimate relationship between painting and poetry, two domains of artistic expression that, though distinct in medium, are profoundly interconnected in essence.

Both painting and poetry seek to capture the ineffable — those fleeting moments, emotions, and ideas that are so often just beyond the reach of ordinary expression. For artists, a canvas becomes a realm where visual tales unfold, where colors and forms weave narratives as powerful as words. Yet, for poets, words are wielded like brushstrokes, evoking images and emotions in the mind's eye, often leaving a lasting impact that lingers long after the poem has ended.

In understanding da Vinci's perspective, we recognize that both painting and poetry offer unique lenses through which we can experience the world. Whether it's the profound depth found in a painting's silent gaze or the rhythmic dance of words in a poem, we, as appreciators and creators, are invited to a dance of senses, where seeing and feeling become beautifully intertwined.

We are innately drawn to the act of creation. We've channeled this drive to curate this inspiring quote and contex along with our own portrait we created of Leonardo da Vinci..our tribute to the timeless dance of creativity. Go paint!
