Vincent™ Pro means a 7/8" deep canvas that is stretched using our MuseumWrap™ back-stapled method with folded corners. Our proprietary stretching process uses pneumatically controlled machines that we built to yield drum-tight tension. Optimize Your Order for Maximum Protection
We care deeply about the safe arrival of your canvases and have designed heavy-duty, triple-strength corrugated boxes to ensure their protection. To further optimize your shipment's safety, we recommend ordering even quantities of the same size. This allows us to pack the delicate parts of the canvas face-to-face, away from the box's exterior, providing extra protection and ensuring your canvas arrives in perfect condition. Even if you order only one, we will still do everything possible to protect your valuable contents during delivery.
This 28x42 is just one of the many unique sizes in Masterpiece® Lost Size collection. With this popular 3:2 Film aspect ratio, this special size is perfect for artists looking to explore new dimensions in their work.
True 3:2 Film Proportion - 28x42 Size
The 3:2 aspect ratio is a very familiar format film, computer screens, and video, and, of course, is an aesthetically appealing proportion for your artistic compositions. Most 35 mm film cameras are based on this exact proportion, so our brains are trained to see images in this same ratio. It is commonly used for landscape photography and artwork, as it allows for a wide, panoramic view of the scene. It can be used to create a sense of balance and harmony in the composition, providing depth and perspective, as the longer sides of the canvas allow for more space to depict the background or foreground elements of the scene.
Even though this proportion is widely used, there are only a handful of commonly available standard canvas sizes in this ratio. There are a whole collection of intriguing (what we call) Lost Sizes, which are uncommon sizes in this common proportion. Unusual canvas sizes add intrigue to your artwork and an additional story to tell about your painting.

Sausalito™ 11.5oz Acrylic Primed Cotton
Our second best selling surface; heavy weight and body with a rugged and paint-gripping surface texture; great for heavy paint applications and impasto.
- 100% Cotton 11.5 oz.; Primed Weight 14 oz. per square yard
- Heavy Weight, Medium Weave, Robust Texture
- Sized and Double Primed with acid-free archival quality acrylic gesso
- Impenetrable ground prevents oil paint from leaching through and harming the canvas
- For acrylics, oils, alkyds, and water miscible oil paints
Vegan Ground:
There are no animal products that make-up the sizing and the primer for this fine canvas. Historically, traditional canvas grounds have included egg tempura, pigments with cow urine, and of course, rabbit skin glue. In today's rapidly advancing world, there are many more choices available for artists who prefer non-animal based products that perform far better than their animal-based predecessors.
Titanium Dioxide (TiO2) Primer Pigment
This primer contains premium-grade Titanium Dioxide (TiO2) white pigment, renowned for its exceptional performance in acrylic priming. Its standout feature is its enduring whiteness, coupled with remarkable flexibility that persists over time. In contrast to other pigments such as zinc dioxide, Titanium Dioxide maintains its resilience, preventing brittleness as it ages. This quality ensures that artworks retain their integrity and will stand the test of time.
Vincent™ Pro 7/8" Deep Bar • 5/16" Canvas Clearance
5/16" Canvas Clearance is the space between the Bar and the canvas. Generally speaking, more clearance reduces the risk of the canvas touching the wood and creating unsightly lines during painting. Our design provides the optimal clearance so as not to impact your painting, but still leaving enough wood to the maximize strength of the Stretched Canvas Frame.
- Stretcher Bar Profile produces a 7/8" deep stretched canvas
- 1.5" wide Stretcher Bar
- Frames with a dimension of 16" and up have a groove machined in the center inside perimeter to which cross braces attach
- Solid Ponderosa Pine or Fir from the Pacific Northwest
No Finger Joints!
Solid Wood is far superior to finger jointed wood, which is many small pieces glued together, each with varying grain densities that absorb and shed moisture at varying rates, expanding and contracting non-uniformly as environmental conditions change, and causing the wood to bow and the finger joints to eventually fail.
A single homogeneous kiln-dried solid wood Stretcher Bar outperforms and outlasts a finger jointed Bar whose sole purpose is to save the manufacturer cost, not contribute to the archival value of artwork intended to last a millennium. As a manufacturer, Masterpiece® does its part to conserve as much wood as possible, and still provide a quality product that will out-perform any other in the marketplace.
28x42 Vincent Pro Frame Kit Extra Heavy Frame Provides Maximum Support
- Photo displays the exact frame construction, not the proportion
- Precision machined medium duty keyable tongue-and-groove Stretcher Bars
- Two super strong 1/2" thick keyable cross braces (3.25" wide) provide the maximum possible support for this 28x42 frame - Cross Braces may be removed and reinserted at any time
- An exclusive slot is milled on the inside perimeter of all of the Stretcher Bars to which the Braces and the expansion wedges attach
- Patented keyable cross braces allow the frame to be tensioned in the middle of the canvas, where the tension needed the most
- Cross braces firmly attached with hardware at the intersection point for maximum support and rigidity
- To increase canvas tension: 1) remove any staples in the corners and those that retain the brace keys in the middle, 2) tap all of the expansion keys further into their respective slots, 3) tighten and re-staple the canvas in the corners
Canvas Tension is in Your Control
In dry climates or air conditioned environments, the lack of moisture in the air causes wood frames to shrink and the canvas fibers to narrow and elongate making the canvas more slack and resulting in a loss of canvas tension. In some instances, the canvas could have waves on the surface resulting in an unsightly viewing experience.
Our Vincent™ Pro professional frames provide the functionality for you to slightly expand the size of the frame in the corners and the middle of the canvas, thereby increasing canvas tension all across the surface. The difference between a loose canvas and a tight canvas is just 1/8", so a small adjustment using our corner and brace keys makes an important difference in canvas tension.
- Helps to prevent waves that occur in a loose canvas
- Increase canvas tension by tapping-in the corner and brace keys
- True professional class canvases make it possible for you to adjust the canvas tension
Cross Braces Make it Tighter
A tightly stretched canvas on an un-braced frame overpowers the Stretcher Bars causing them to bow inward and thereby lose tension. Sometimes that bow can expose a space in picture frames.
When a canvas is stretched on a properly supported frame, the cross-braces prevent the Bars from bowing thereby achieving maximum canvas tension. To increase the canvas tension even more, simply tap the corner and brace keys further in their slots. Properly supported frames provide you with the control over the canvas tension of your canvas and painting.
Sustainably Managed Forests Inhale and Exhale
The world's forests are essential to human survival. Forests inhale carbon dioxide for the earth, and exhale oxygen essential for life. When we speak of the sustainable forest strategy of ensuring that more timber will exist in the same forest land than exists today, this is the only viable plan for the future of humanity. For this reason, we use only lumber from the sustainable forests of Oregon, Washington, and California, where there’s more standing timber today than last century!
Specially Dried and Heat Treated Lumber
We source our wood from a select group of top-tier environmentally conscious lumber mills in the Pacific Northwest. These mills specially dry and heat-treat the lumber to our specifications, resulting in about half the moisture content compared to wood from typical home improvement centers or lumber yards. This process makes the wood stronger, reducing the likelihood of cracking, splitting, or warping. While the wood we use comes at a higher cost, it ensures a more dimensionally stable end product. This stability is crucial for crafting fine professional canvases that support your invaluable art over time.

The camera cannot compete with the brush and palette so long as it cannot be used in heaven or hell.
♦ Edvard Munch
The brilliant mind behind The Scream, Edvard Munch captures a profound sentiment in this statement. He alludes to the intangible depth, emotion, and soulfulness that traditional art mediums, such as paint, can convey. These are realms of expression that the mechanical and the objective - represented by the camera - might find elusive.
This assertion becomes a powerful reminder. Our tools are not just physical instruments but also gateways to the vast landscapes of emotions, experiences, and the human psyche. Whether capturing the ethereal tranquility of a heavenly vision or the tumultuous infernos of our deepest fears, we wield the unique power to depict the intangible. The camera may freeze a moment in time, but our brushes and palettes breathe life into the whispers of the soul, weaving narratives beyond the confines of the tangible world. This distinction emphasizes the boundless realms we are invited to explore, interpret, and communicate, ensuring our art remains timeless, touching, and infinitely profound.
We've handpicked this empowering quote and offer insightful context to inspire your art. We've even created this unique portrait of Edvard Munch to provide a personal touch to your browsing experience. Now start on your painting!
Tight'n'Up™ Liquid Canvas Retensioner
While all of our Masterpiece® Pro canvases are stretched very tightly and our frames have a built-in method to increase tension, we have another method to add canvas tension. Tight'n'Up™ Liquid Canvas Retensioner (sold separately) can be sprayed on the back of a canvas to repair most canvas tension issues.
With Tight'n'Up™, you can add tension to just a small area, or a large area. Simply spray it lightly on the back and brush it into the canvas, and within seconds, your canvas becomes tighter and stays tighter. The more you use, the tighter it gets.
