True 5:4 Photography Proportion - 8x10 Size

And 8x10, of course, is one of the most popular sizes ever in both photography and art!

The 5:4 aspect ratio is common to both art and portrait photography, as it creates a visually pleasing format for the human figure and face. The balanced compositional format can help to create a sense of symmetry and harmony in your artwork. The 5:4 ratio has a familiar "feel", as it was commonly used in early computer monitors. Additionally, you might consider trying some relatively unknown sizes in this same proportion that we call Lost Sizes As an artist, you get the best of both worlds, because you still get to use the same aesthetically appealing 5:4 format and use rare or novel sizes that help make your art stand-out.

Vincent™ Pro 7/8" Deep Bar • 5/16" Canvas Clearance

5/16" Canvas Clearance is the space between the Bar and the canvas. Generally speaking, more clearance reduces the risk of the canvas touching the wood and creating unsightly lines during painting. Our design provides the optimal clearance so as not to impact your painting, but still leaving enough wood to the maximize strength of the Stretcher Bar.

  • Produces a 7/8" deep stretched canvas
  • 1.5" wide Stretcher Bar
  • Solid Ponderosa Pine or Fir from the Pacific Northwest

Solid Wood is Archival - Finger Jointed Wood is Not

We only use Solid Wood to build our Stretcher Bars because a solid piece of wood will last indefinitely. When we speak of archival value, it's not just the paint you use and the quality of your canvas and ground, even the wood choices manufacturers make are part of the archival process.

The principal reason manufactures use finger jointed wood is reduce cost, not increase archival value. Wood constantly grows and shrinks when the environment becomes hotter, or colder, or more humid, or more dry. Because finger jointed wood is made-up of multiple and varied pieces of wood, with varying grain patterns and densities, they each absorb and shed moisture at varying rates, which works on the glue joints that hold them together, causing the wood to bow and the joints to eventually fail, and certainly not consistent with increasing the archival value of your artwork frame support.

As a manufacturer, we do our part to conserve as much wood as possible, and still provide a quality made product that will out-perform any other in the marketplace.

Sustainability is about Reducing Deforestation

Choosing products made with sustainably sourced lumber is an important way for consumers to make a positive impact on the environment. By supporting sustainable forestry practices, we can help to reduce deforestation, promote biodiversity, and mitigate climate change. It's a simple and effective way to make a difference.

The love we give away is the only love we keep. ♦ Elbert Hubbard

The influential writer and philosopher of the early 20th century, Elbert Hubbard possessed a unique ability to encapsulate profound truths in simple statements. When he said these words, he offered a perspective on love that goes beyond the realms of romance and dives deep into human nature and our creative impulses.

In the world of art, this sentiment holds a particular resonance. Artists, by nature, are givers. We pour our emotions, thoughts, and experiences onto our canvases, in our sculptures, or through our performances. By sharing these pieces of ourselves, we are, in essence, giving away love. And in this generous act of sharing, we find that the appreciation, understanding, and connection we receive in return are the very manifestations of the love we keep. It's a cyclical process; the more we give, the more we retain.

For those of us navigating the challenges and uncertainties of the artistic path, Hubbard's wisdom serves as a gentle reminder. It prompts us to continue to share, to express, and to give away pieces of our soul, for in doing so, we enrich not only the lives of our audience but also our own.

We've handpicked this quote and our interpretation of it's meaning to inspire your art. And we honor the legacy of Elbert Hubbard by creating this one-of-a-kind portrait to tie it all together. Start Painting!
