True 2:1 Domino Proportion - 6x12 Size

6x12 is one of our popular Domino 2:1 sizes.

The 2:1 aspect ratio, that we call the domino proportion, also offers a unique canvas for artists to play with the perception of space and depth within their compositions. The elongated format allows for the inclusion of foreground, middle ground, and background elements, creating a sense of distance and scale that draws the viewer's eye into the artwork. This aspect ratio has been used by artists throughout history, from ancient Egyptian tomb paintings to Renaissance frescoes to contemporary photography. Its versatility and timelessness make it a classic choice for artists seeking to create dynamic and engaging compositions.

Vincent™ Pro 7/8" Deep Bar • 5/16" Canvas Clearance

5/16" Canvas Clearance is the space between the Bar and the canvas. Generally speaking, more clearance reduces the risk of the canvas touching the wood and creating unsightly lines during painting. Our design provides the optimal clearance so as not to impact your painting, but still leaving enough wood to the maximize strength of the Stretcher Bar.

  • Produces a 7/8" deep stretched canvas
  • 1.5" wide Stretcher Bar
  • Solid Ponderosa Pine or Fir from the Pacific Northwest

No Finger Joints!

Solid Wood is far superior to finger jointed wood, which is many small pieces glued together, each with varying grain densities that absorb and shed moisture at varying rates, expanding and contracting non-uniformly as environmental conditions change, and causing the wood to bow and the finger joints to eventually fail.

A single homogeneous kiln-dried solid wood Stretcher Bar outperforms and outlasts a finger jointed Bar whose sole purpose is to save the manufacturer cost, not contribute to the archival value of artwork intended to last a millennium. As a manufacturer, Masterpiece® does its part to conserve as much wood as possible, and still provide a quality product that will out-perform any other in the marketplace.

What is Sustainable Forestry?

To a forester, the term "sustainable" could mean exercising industry adopted forestry practices to maintain a forest indefinitely. To a logger, the process of proper care for the trees remaining after a harvest. To a landowner, their interest may lie in keeping their forest in the family. And to those of involved in the process of making and using wood-based art supplies, it can mean promoting and supporting an industry dedicated to the preservation of our precious natural resource. We can all do our part to care for our national forests.

The painter should not paint what he sees, but what will be seen. ♦ Paul Klee

An influential figure in the modern art movement, Paul Klee was often characterized by his poetic and playful approach to art. Beyond the physical and the immediate, His work delved into the metaphysical, the symbolic, and the future. When he urges artists to paint what will be seen, he isn't merely talking about the tangible. He is suggesting a deeper introspection, a vision that extends beyond the now, reaching into the realms of possibility, imagination, and future interpretation.

This means that our work on the canvas is not just a reflection of our immediate surroundings or transient emotions. It's a vision of what could be, a dream of what might emerge, a statement of what we hope for. As we approach our art, we are not just passive observers but active participants in shaping perceptions, influencing emotions, and guiding future interpretations. In essence, Klee challenges us to be visionaries, to transcend the immediate, and to mold the future with our brushstrokes.

To enhance your creative exploration of our site, we offer the insightful wisdom of Paul Klee, our interpretation, and little one-of-a-kind portrait that we created. Now go paint!
